Those responsible for this commitment hope to help develop the many and varied talents of the child, to emphasize his strongerones, and to help him attain and maintain a positive self-image. For this purpose it is necessary to determine a child's academic levels and diagnose his needs; and starting at these levels, to prescribe an educational program for him which may be adjusted as necessary to make it possible for the child to move continuously and successfully at his best rate. The staff is organized into interdisciplinary teams, and the building is designed to provide the flexibility of space need to complement the flexibility of time and grouping provided by such organizations. The staff organization, combined with the employment of materials on a need basis rather than on a grade level basis, evaluation by individual progress rather than by grade level standards, and an increasing pupil role in his own education by offering more self-select ion, self-direction, and self-evaluation will lead the staff, hopefully, to an ever increasing individualized and humanized educational program. Born of Swedish- American parents on February 15.1922. he was valedictorian of his class at Rockford Central High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the I'niversity of Illinois in 1942. Enlisting in the Army Field Artillery during World War 11, he won four battle stars in major campaigns in France and Germany. Returning to the I'niversity of Illinois, he was awarded a Doctor of Law degree in 1946. Subsequently he won a fellowship to Harvard Law School, where he received his Master of Law degree in 1949 While at Harvard he taught at the Northeastern University Law School. In 1952 Mr. Anderson entered the State Department's Career Diplomatic Service, spending two and a half years in Berlin on the staff of the U.S. High Commissioner to Germany. He left the Foreign Service and returned to Rockford to practice law in 1955. A yea" later he was elected State's Attorney of Winnebago County, an office which he held until his election to Congress in 1960. Congressman Anderson is married to the former Keke Machakos of Boston, Massachusetts. They have five children - Eleanora, John Jr., Diane, Karen Beth and Susan Kimberly born in August, 1971, - and a French poodle named Timmy. While Congress is in session, the Andersons make their home in Bethesda, Maryland HOWARD V McHUGH, Counselor, BA from St. Mary's in Philosophy, MED from University of Illinois in Ed. Psychology Taught social studies and was a social worker for the Dept. of Health. This is his fourth year in Dist. 15. McHugh is married and has 2 children SHARON CRONKRITE, Counselor, taught 3rd grade for 2 years in Milwaukee area, has a BS degree in Primary Education from Edgewood College in Madison, and was Resident Director and College Counselor at Edgewood College. In 1970-71 she was Junior high Counselor at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. In August of this year she received her MS in Guidance and Counseling from Univ. of Wise. Madison. HENRY A KENYON, Learning Center Director, BA of Education from Wisconsin State University at Whitewater - 1956; MS in Education from Northern 111. University - 1963. 15 years of ex­ perience -14 of which were at the McH. Junior H.S. as both teacher and librarian. Wife Marie a former Junior High teacher, three children Larry, John and Marybeth. Parkland School Dedication Day October 17, 1971 KATHY LESTER graduated from University of Illinois in 1971 where she majored in piano and voice. She has a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education with choral and vocal emphasis. SIBYL SEARS - Home Economics - BS in Home Ec. from University of Texas, MS from Northern 111. Univ. in Education with emphasis on Reading. She worked 5 years as an employee of the Univ. of 111. in 4H club work. Sibyl has 11 years of teaching ex­ perience. EUGENE MARIS, Industrial Arts, area and team leader, Softball coach. This is his 12 year in McHenry Dist. 15. A graduate from Southern Illinois Univ. with a Bs in Industrial Education. He has done additional graduate work at Northern. Eugene is married to Donna and they have 3 children. DONALD HUGHES received his BA in Fine Arts from Indiana University. He lived in Chicago for two years teaching children's and adult's art classes at Jane Addams Hull House. Following a year and a half of study at Southern Illinois University, he came to McHenry Junior H.S. in January 1971 to teach Arts & Crafts and is now teaching at Parkland. He lives in Round Lake Beach with wife Pat and daughter Julie. Letter From Dr. Robert Boos Dear Public: Many hands and hearts have gone into the building of our Parkland School. It stands today as a living witness to the aspirations, sacrifices and labors of the community, Board of Kducation, and professional staff and friends of McHenry Com­ munity Consolidated District 15. We are just beginning to develop what will become a tradition of teaching at Parkland School. Here, both basic skills and modern disciplines are brought to bear on young minds, training them to be used and providing the solid experiences and opportunities on which to use them. Parkland, like our other schools, holds firm to the belief that an educated person is not one who can simply gather facts but one who can tell what those facts mean. Parkland School fchall strive to impart ideals and methods; to train her students to live like young men and ladies, young men and young ladies of judgement-with an internal poise- a character. Although we are justifiably proud of our building and the various instructional approaches currently employed and those planned for the near future, I encourage you to pay particular attention to ANN C. MAKI is the girl's Physical Education and Health teacher for grades 6, 7 and 8. She supervises girls' intramurals and cheerleading. A graduate from Southeast Missouri State College in Cape Girardeau she has a BS in Education and received two courses in Health Education from Northwestern Extensions. This is her 3rd year of teaching in McHenry. ROBERT PRINCE taught 19 years in both private and public schools. BS and Master in Education from University of Illinois. Prior to studies in 111.,, Mr. Prince received a Licentiate of Language degree from Mount Carmel Univ., Developmental Reading lab at Parkland. JERRY EISERMAN, is a graduate of Monmouth College 1968. Mr. Eiserman has 4 years teaching experience. He teaches Physical Education and coaches football and basketball. His wife Mary teaches at Hilltop. DIANA MAAS - 7th & 8th grade French. Diana has taught for 3 years at McHenry Junior H.S. She graduated from Seattle Pacific College. Diana and her husband live in Woodstock and are houseparents for boys at the Woodstock Children's Home. They have 2 girls of their own. JEANNE STENBERG graduated from Illinois State University in 1969 and taught band at Melvin-Sibley Jr. & Sr. High Schools for 2 years. our "focus on the individual." To insure each child an opportunity to experience a full measure of success is our prime concern. To be sure, this is no small task...but, this is our commitment. I wish to, on behalf of our staff, dedicate this school to the boys and girls currently enrolled and the countless young people whose lives will be touched and molded by Parkland and her staff in the years to come. The world of the future is theirs, Parkland's students now and to come. We dedicate this school to the future of this community and this country, by dedicating ourselves to the children this school will serve. We accept the trust given us and pledge our hearts, our minds, and our energies to the task of developing children who will enjoy wholesome, successful, productive and happy lives both now and as adults. I hope our public will attend the Parkland School Dedication and find our school both interesting and exciting. The dedication is on Sunday, October 17.
