Too often our schools have been guilty of abetting the dehumanization process in our society "by producing perfect cogs for the technological machine rather than fulfilled human beings," according to Anderson. "Is it any wonder that there has beena loss of self and identity, and consequently a crisis of confidence and a crisis of the spirit?" Anderson concluded, "I think we are capable of turning our society around, of turning from things back to people, of making education a truly human encounter that will prepare our children to be humane and fulfilled human beings." The innovative program of Parkland school, with its emphasis on individual potential and achievement, said Anderson, can help to provide that turning point. Dennis Bower of 1003 River road, McHenry, reported that valuable musical equipment had been taken from his auto while it was parked at the Vogue Lounge, 238 W. Rand road, Lakemoor, last Sunday morning. Congressman John B. An derson (R-Ill. -16th) told a Parkland school dedication audience in McHenry last Sunday that the new school, in his words, "symbolizes your commitment to today's children and to succeeding generations, and to the future of this great land of ours." The Rockford Republican went on to say: "The ex citement which surrounds today's ceremony goes beyond the pride in a new building. It is the excitement which comes with the awareness of the ac tivity and life which will fill these rooms and corridors for many years to come -- the laughing, crying, loving, learning, growing, feeling and thinking. All the emotions and experiences which we, too, knew as school children. And though our schools may have been smaller and our curriculum more limited, these differences are blurred today, and for an instant we are all children again, sharing in the universal and timeless ad venture that is - or should be - education." But Anderson went on to warn that our country today is suffering from a crisis of confidence in its institutions, including its schools. In his words, "Our institutions, which are to give meaning, drive and cohesion to our society, are losing touch with the people, and the people with the in stitutions; and instead of meaning, drive and cohesion, our society is experiencing meaninglessness, apathy and division." Anderson said this is especially evident among the THE '74'S ARE HERE Actually the 1972 SAAB 99's are here. But they have bumpers that meet D.O.T. standards for 1974. They'll take front or rear impacts of up to 5 m.p.h. without sustaining any body damage. This qualifies for a 20% discount from some auto insur ance companies. And if the SAAB 99 for '72 doesn't warm your heart--it'll at least warm your bottom. An electrically heated driver's seat is stan dard on both 2 door and 4 door models. The body style is the same for 72 (it's already aerodynamically efficient and we don't change something just for the sake of change). And we still have road hugging front wheel drive that laughs at snowy roads. For a heart (and bottom) warming experience--test drive a 1972 SAAB 99 EUR0PA MOTORS SAAB SALES AND SERVICE 3^1,9 W.
