One of the first ideas was to try for a large number of members and charge a small fee. To become a member does not mean a person has to take animals in one"s home. These are the pets up for adoption this week for a donation: In Crystal Lake at 459-0511 is a 4-month-old male tiger kitty, very gentle and loving and also a 6-week-old male golden kitten, so very very pretty! In Wonder Lake at 653-7869 is a 4-month-old female orange tiger kitten with long hair. In McHenry at 385-8257 is a 6- year-old male Collie-German Shepherd, tan with long fur, resembles the Collie. In Fox Lake, 312-587-0745, is a 3-month-old female black short- haired kitten and a 3-month-old male grey and white semi-long­ haired kitten, male, that is used to dogs. In McHenry at 385-8390 is a lV2-year-old male partly Cocker Spaniel, mostly white and just loves kids! In McHenry at 385-595 is a 9- month-old female Australian Terrier, brown and black shaggy fur, size of a small poodle. She has had all her shots but should go to home without small children. In Algonquin at 658-8597 Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. is a 2V2-year- old male 90 percent Poodle, silver, miniature size, newly clipped, housebroken and has had all his shots. An enclosed yard is necessary. In Crystal Lake at 459-0511 are six S'/z-week-old kittens in a variety of colors - all grey, tiger grey, black and white, almost all black and fluffy grey, all very friendly. In Johnsburg at 385-4894 is a 9-month-old male short-haired dog nicknamed Spot because of his coloring of white with black spots and also a 12-week-old female black and brown tiger kitten. In Crystal Lake at 459-9426 is a 12-week-old femal Fox Terrier-Beagle puppy, white, brown and black and very lively! Same number - 3 part Dalmatian puppies, 2 male, 1 female, two all black and 1 black with white spots who love to romp and play. Also at 459- 9426 is a 2-year-old female Bassett Hound who was found on a doorstep with a note around her neck saying her name is Squeeky and she loves children. Now for the kittens at 459-9426 in Crystal Lake. Katy, the 12- week-old female, is still patiently waiting for a home; she gets more playful every day. She is a black tiger with snowy white legs and feet and so loving. Also there is a black and white female cat who is a good mouser and a 12-week old female long-haired brown and black tabby and 1 male and 1 female 6-week-old golden kittens - so very pretty! At 312-587-0183 is a 6-month- old male part Persian cat, solid grey, affectionate and gentle. In McHenry at 385-5263 is a 4- year-old female Chihuahua, housebroken, all shots and best with adults oftly. In Woodstock at 338-1022 is a 3-month-old male, 99 percent English Springer Spaniel, black and white spotted, loves children. In Crystal Lake at 459-5184 are 3 female kittens, 7 weeks old, grey and black tiger with white paws, black and tan tiger stripe - long hair, and the other is black with some white; really cute! In Woodstock at 338-3245 is an 8-month-old Otterhound- Terrier mix male, he has long hair, is blond and white, housebroken, well-behaved in the home and also a good watchdog. In Crystal Lake at 459-6325 is a 4-month-old Collie mix, black with white mane and paws and so friendly! He is being treated now for glass iij his paws but is coming along beautifully. In Crystal Lake at 459-5528 is a 1-year-old male St. Bernard, AKC registered; good wat­ chdog. In Crystal Lake at 459-6962 is a lV2-year-old female AKC registered Chihuahua, black and white. In Cary at 639-2908 is an 8- month-old white mixed breed puppy. Please call after 5 p.m. if interested. Found Found at 459-0989, a male all black angora type kitten under 3 months old. Found at 459-6393, a full grown male cat, black with a white chest and white paws. Lost Lost on Eagle street in Crystal Lake, a 1-year-old spayed female cat named "Suzy". She is a tiger stripe with white face and a raccoon type tail. Call 459-2610 for a $25 reward for the return of Suzy. Lost in Cary at 639-2979, a neutered male cat, black with white on chest and tummy. Lost at 459-8383, a l^-year- old-male tiger stripe cat, black and white stripe with a brown spot on upper lip. Lost in Island Lake at 312-526- 8785, 9-month-old female Irish Setter. In McHenry at 385-6302, a Husky-Shepherd mix with chain was lost. Lost at 385-1165, a 6-year-old male Collie with tags. Please remember to call your local veterinarians if you lose your pet, as strays are picked up by the county and are kept at the local veterinarian's office 3 to 5 days and are put to sleep if not claimed or placed. Church Women United Friday, Nov. 5, (1 to 3 p.m.), designated as "World Com­ munity Day by Church Women United" will be observed at St. Mary's church hall, McHenry. A panel of speakers from the McHenry County Defenders will discuss the environmental problems of the area, using the theme, "Build a New Earth -- and a Better McHenry Coun­ ty." A question and answer period will follow. Baby-sitting service will be available. Refreshments will be served. Parking space is ample at the rear of the school. The price of admission is a piece of rubbish to be used in the creation of a Rubbish Sculp­ ture ! Panel members from the Defenders are Mrs. Robert Becker (Sydna) on the board of directors, a member of AAUW Environmental Study group, and co-chairman of Defenders Recycling Project. Her topic: Land use - and finding con­ structive criteria for planning and zoning. Mrs. William Carroll, Jr. (Ann) is secretary and newsletter editor of the McHenry county chapter of the Audubon society, a member of the Ecological Ordinance Committee of Woodstock, and a member of the recycling study group. Her topic: Pro­ tecting Water Re­ sources. Mrs. Richard Hunt (Lori), is secretary of the Wilson Bog Preservation committee, and one of the foremost people in the fight for preservation of the Wilson and Volo Bogs. Her topic: The enormous problem of waste disposal. Mrs. Willard Hadleck (Lynn) is an active member of the League of Women Voters, and a member of the McHenry County Board of Health. Her topic: Citizen action, group (political) action and in­ dividual responsibility. All panel members are active in McHenry county and on the Citizens' Committee for Con­ servation. Church Women United is functioning in many parts of the globe but has been in action in this area about one year under the name "Church Women United, Lake Region." It is more often referred to as a "movement" rather than an organization. Three special days sponsored are World Day of Prayer the first Friday in March, World Fellowship Day the first Friday in May and World Community Day the first Friday in November. They also sponsor "Meals on Wheels", a service for shut-ins in the area, as well as sewing layettes for Pakistani refugees. Holiday Hills Bonnie Kellen 385-6344 Brownie Troop Enjoys Outing To Nature Center On Monday, Oct. 11, Brownie Troop 409 took advantage of the day off from school and took a trip to the River Trails Nature Center and Forest Preserve on River Road in DesPlaines. While there, the girls saw displays of wildlife found in the area, and displays of the Indian tribes that inhabited this area 150 years ago. Following that, they walked the many trails of the preserve, which have along the way many signs telling what kind of trees they are viewing and something about them. Kim Hamilton, Karen Thietje, Dawn Douglas, Jeana Koppen, Sharon Underwood and Janice Emmons. The troop leaders are Bonnie Kellen and Linda Thietje. Carolyn Stackhouse also came along to assist. The weather couldn't have been better, and everyone seemed to have had a good time. GET WELL WISHES Bill Goebel is in McHenry hospital recuperating from a case of double pneumonia, and would like to hear from all his friends. His room number is 202. We all hope he gets well soon and we send our best get- well wishes to him. Marge Krueger has been home from the hospital about two weeks, and is getting along nicely. She really did enjoy all the cards she received from her neighbors, and perhaps that helped to speed her recovery. BIRTHDAYS AND ANNIVERSARIES Belated happy birthday to Bill Boettcher on Oct. 13, Douglas Gabriel and Renee Jende on Oct. 15, Desiree Frantz on Oct. 18, Denise Hughes on Oct. 19, twins Tim and Tom Hughes and Betty Douglas on Oct. 21. IN TWO BANDS Three students from Chicago's north side, one from this area, are members of musical organizations at Augustana college, Rock Island. Paul Dethlefson, fresh­ man, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Dethlefson, 6505 N. Damen avenue, is a member of the Augustana Concert Band and Augustana! varsity band. He is a graduate of McHenry Community high school.
