C.--The bill introduced by Senator Sam Ervin of North Carolina and Representative Emanuel Celler of New York, Demo crats, which would end anti trust exemptions for baseball and football, would severely hurt both sports. The bill, which probably has little chance of enact ment, was prompted by the American League transfer of baseball from Washington to Dallas-Fort Worth. It would open up contract signing in both sports by al lowing each player freedom to bargain and to play for the team which would pay the most for his services. Theoretically this is good principled and practice. But it woulcy doom poor teams to the loss of their best play ers, unbalance the leagues and change the relative order in professional football and baseball to chaos--on both contract signing and strike fronts. I Giant City and Mississippi Palisades State Parks will be opened to shotgun deer hunting this year, according to Henry N. Barkhausen, director of the Illinois Department^of Con servation. "Both of these parks have an abundance of deer," said Director Barkhausen. "Our biologists have determined that both areas could be hunted without adversely affecting the deer populations, and we feel we can allow hunting without making it hazardous for any park visitors." The Director said that there would be no hunting within 500 feet of any main roads, picnic and capping areas, or buildings. At Giant City , south of Carbondale, the season will be Nov. 19, 20 and 21, and Dec. 10, 11 and 12 and the hunter does not have to check in or out. The season at Mississippi Palisades, near Savanna, will be Nov. 19, 20 and 21. Daily hunting will be on a first-come, first-served basis, with only 60 hunters allowed on the park grounds each day. Hunters may hunt one day only. Hunting licenses will be deposited at the point of entry and picked up at the completion of the day's hunt. A hunter must have a deer permit for the county in which he is hunting, in these park areas as for the remainder of the state. October 20 Team Standings • W-L tot. pins 1. The Stars 17-7 9,325 2.
