Improved land management for highway rights-of-way will save Illinois more than $3.5 million in grass mowing costs this year, according to Public Works Director William F. Cellini. More than 180,000 acres are in the program involving architectural mowing along interstate highways and selective mowing along all primary roads. The mowing patterns, established in early spring, leave cover for small game and provide better . erosion control. William Wentzel Jr., Kitchen Band Appears For Two Events On Wednesday, Oct. 20, members of the kitchen band of the McHenry Senior Citizens club presented a program at the Town Hall Estates Nursing home at Wauconda. This was a very special program, dedicated to the memory of Mrs. Florence Johnson, who had been a member of the kitchen band, and who had also been a resident of the Nursing Home. From the tremendous ap plause the band knew the audience had enjoyed the program just as much as they had enjoyed presenting it. One of the men in the audience mentioned some German songs, so band members im mediately sang several which rated high applause also. The band said goodbye to the audience with the promise they would be glad to play for them Laura Wentzel, Matthew Wentzel, Fred Wilton and Hazel Wilton. ^ A dessert hour in honor of the new members will be held at the home of Eugene and Miriam Miller, 3912 West Oak, McHenry, Nov. 14 at 7:30 p.m. again. The band has received a number of requests for programs for the 1972 season. They should be made through the band secretary, Lyda Radisch. The Zion Lutheran Church had a new members dinner Sunday evening, Oct. 24, and also had as guests the kitchen band of the McHenry Senior Citizens club. , After the dinner the band took their places on the stage. The ladies were resplendent in their ornate and colorful hats, and all with their prized musical creations hand-crafted from items and gadgets found in any kitchen.
