PAGE 4-PLAINDEALER-TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1971 Wonder Lake Mary Jean Huff 653-9167 Scribe Grateful To Contributors For Column Help Thanksgiving Day. 1971. An appropriate time to count our blessings and thank a few people who are responsible for this Wonder Lake news column appearing here each week First, thanks to the staff at the Plaindealer for their kindness, patient^ and help - you'll have to go pretty far to find a better bunch to work with. Next, thanks to the many Wonder Lakers who have provided me with news; without them this column would be nothing Thanks to all those whom I've called to fill me in with details about their vacations, an niversaries, etc., for their kindness and cooperation And thanks to those who have told us they read the Wonder Lake news and enjoy it and also to the few who have given us some helpful, constructive criticism (we could use more!). And thanks to my family and especially that guy named Don who keeps encouraging me when it's deadline day and I'm staring at a blank page And so, for whatever it's worth, we'll keep pluggin' away trying to find out what 's new in Wonder I>ake, but to make it really worth reading we need to hear from you! A Happy Thanksgiving to you all. (Let me know how you enjoyed your turkey!) ANNIVERSARIES Best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kiddell who recently celebrated their twenty-frrtirth wedding anniversary. Also, to the cause of so much joy in the Ed Coughlin home, young Amy will be two happy years old on Nov. 29. Happy day to all of you! ADVICE TO MOMMIE If you're a mommie, I have a few words of advice^ for you. Avoid the flu bug - don't get sick. Not so easily done? O.K., if you must give in to the miseries caused by that pesky Asian, Italian, or whatever kind of bug it is this year, at least choose a Sunday to collapse on, so your family is there to be of aid and comfort. After you have gotten up in the morning and done only the absolute essentials, such as changing the baby's messy diaper, then you can rest in bed the entire day. Right? Well, it's funny how you notice some things while you're trying to sleep on a Sunday that you don't notice other days. Such as how that back door slams when it closes for the 20th time in 20 minutes, or is it just that the wind is catching it right today. Or how loud the T.V. has to be when there's a football game on. (Pass the aspirin, please). Or how to explain to your two year old who comes in every five minutes and hands you your robe and slippers that sometimes mommies take naps, too. Or how the telephone, which rarely rings on Sundays, must have set a record number of calls today. And finally, a cup of hot tea in front of the blazing fireplace seems like the most reasonable thing to do, so you hobble out of bed and your recovery begins. CROP REPORTERS Voluntary crop reporters have been cited for various years of service. The following were named in McHenry county: Burrow Brothers, Arthur B. Rudsinski and Ronald G. Spaulding, twenty years; Walter J. Bolger, Lester M. Davis and John L. Doll, ten years. c Goodwill To Visit Wonder i Lake, McHenry The residents of this area are reminded to join the Goodwill Industries program of restoring people when the truck makes a visit in McHenry and Wonder Lake Friday, Nov. 26, according to Mrs. Nick (Agnes) Adams, local representative. For pickup service or in formation about Goodwill, call 385-0863. "Many people picture Goodwill Industries * as an agency restoring clothing and housewares to new usefulness, but actually it is primarily concerned with restoring people." Mrs. Adams reported. "Rehabilitation of disabled people is the ohly reason Goodwill asks for donations of repairable discards. By repairing and selling donated merchandise the agency is able to create jobs that give hun dreds of handicapped a new lease on life," Mrs. Adams continued. In order to maintain a hun dred disabled employees, " Goodwill Industries needs a three and xk million pounds of textiles and 75,000 boxes of miscellany. This represents 2,625 tons of material. The amount of service depends entirely upon the public, as Goodwill is owned and con trolled by the people, not the state, a church group or private enterprise. Ecology concerns every one of us. let's be anfi-liffer and anti pollution. 3720 West Elm Street McHenry, Illinois Christmas is jus* a month Store Hours: Daily 9 to 9 Saturday 9 to 6 Sunday 9 to 2 0 fs l\ % i v Hp£W/nfs On Target Set TOPPER TOPPER Ding-A-Ling ° _ Turn Around Smarty Pants Set Smarty Pants knows lots of The Ding a Ling Robot important things and likes will glide, walk across, .... . .. around and under this to talk about em. 8 foot skyway.
