I PAGE 2-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1971 * MR. AND MRS. JOHN COOKE MARRIED - Miss Carroll Anne Beck, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beck of 1717 Woodlawn Park, McHenry. was married Oct. 1 to Mr. John Cooke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cooke of Barrington. The ceremony was solemnized at St. James Episcopal church. Dundee The newlyweds are making their home in Schaumburg. McHenry Girl Wed Saturday St John the Baptist Catholic church was the scene of a lovely fall wedding Saturday, Nov. 20. when Mary Agnes Himpelmann, daughter of Mrs. Joseph Himpelmann of 3611 N. Middle avenue, McHenry, and the late Joseph Himpelmann, exchanged nuptial vows with John William Weightman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Weightman of 170 Rosedale avenue. Crystal Lake. Rev. Leo J. Bartel officiated at the 3 o'clock afternoon services in a church decorated with bouquets of white gladioli and yellow mums. Special music was presented at the ceremony by members of St. Francis Seminary choir, with soloist Stephen Zwettler, who sang "The Wedding Song", organist, Charles Conley, trumpeter, Gregory Smith, and guitarists. Lawrence Sullivan and John Pilon The pretty bride wore a semi- full gown of dacron sheer featuring a bodice of heavy Venice lace, high stand-up collar, full, puffed, long sleeves and a detachable train. Her bouffant veil of Venice lace was attached to a face-framer headpiece. She carried a cascading bouquet of white starburst, white pomps, white roses and baby's breath Grandma Sez • • • A lot o' readin', and' listenin' t' folks who re intrested in what the future holds fer civilization, especially the comin' generations, this old granny has come t' the conclusion that folks are a bit late in bein' thankful fer all the bounties which this good earth pervides. Ever thin' has been taken, too much, fer granted. The attitude seems t' have been that ii'd last ferever, an' the trend t' ex travagant livin' is, finally, catchin' up wi' the whole world. It's right good t' feel that certain individuals feel the need t' regard the good things, which nature pervides, as precious an' needin' t' be pertecked. Seems t' me, that a lot o' people 're finally comin't' their senses, an' takin' a stand regardin' preservation o' the earth's resources, an' natural, wonderful things, which we use ever' day. as a matter o' course. I wuz a wonderin', t' other day, how many folks take a drink o' water, an' really ap preciate it. If it wasn't available, it'd be appreciated, you can bet Even wi' the warnin's from those who know, some people don't heed. The thing t' remember is, that there ain't a goin' t' be more, where that came from, after it's destroyed, not fer thousands o' years, not until ol' Mother Nature kin clarify it through her natural processes. It frightens this ol' lady, when I hear o' areas which 're badly affected wi' air pollution. This society 's become so in volved wi' manufacturin' things which don't last long enough t' git used t' havin' 'em, that it keeps the factories a workin' over-time t' produce 'em. Then the stuff's so indestructible, o' which they're made, some o' which wi'stands in tense heat, that there's no way t' dispose o' the junk. Mebbe some o' it needs t' be eliminated from production, an' we'd be better off wi' good products, manufactured t' last a life-time. The whole picture includes clothing, furniture, cookin' utensils, an' everthin' ye kin mention. Now they're talkin' about a cheap car, which ye kin throw away after a year. Don't they realize that the pollution from manufacturin' sich things, in numbers far above the necessary needs fer I I I I I I I I spurgeons SUNDAY HOURS 10:00 to 4:30 Fox Trails Announces the 8th ANNUAL SKI SWAP A BRING I Used equipment to the Chalet on Saturday, k November 20th and Sunday, November 21st, f 1971. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Mary Justen and Mrs. Vicky Letizia both of McHenry, friends of the bride, and Barbara Him pelmann of Johnsburg, sister of the bride. The attendants were attired in floor length pant dresses of light green crepe with bodices of dark green velvet em broidered with pastel colored flowers. They wore green crepe bow headpieces with matching veils. Each carried a bouq&et of light bronze pomps, yellow elegance and baby's breath. Gary Weightman of Cary served his brother as best ntan. Groomsmen were Joel Him pelmann of Racine, Wis., brother of the bride, Bill Meier of Crystal Lake and Ron Garry of Cary, both friends of the groom. For her daugher's wedding, Mrs. Himpelmann chose a light green dress and coat ensemble with matching accessories and a corsage of yellow and white roses. The groom's mother wore a gold dress and coat ensemble with brown ac cessories and a corsage of yellow roses. Following the ceremony, a reception for 300 friends and relatives was held at the Johnsburg Community club. Seems t' me, the people should be interested enough t' git t'gether, an' petition the government officials t' cut out the red-tape, an' git down t' business, in settin' controls which 'd perteck our en vironment, which is so dependent on the state o' our ecology. This ol' lady wishes, that on this Thanksgivin' Day, folks'd stop t' be thankful that there's still a chance t' make things right wi' Mother Nature; thankful fer the privilege o' partakin' o' the air we breather, an' the water we still have. Most folks 've never given heed t' bein' thankful fer these things. It seems they're so takin' wi' the Thanksgivin' fixin's that the most important things o' all, 'rt over-looked, fer wi' out the air an' the water, there'd be no Thanksgivin' Dinner t' enjoy. A Happy, an' Thoughtful Thanksgivin' Day, t' ye all. Friendship Club To Give Gifts F or Home After enjoying a very delicious pot-luck dinner, the November meeting of the Friendship club of the First United Methodist church by Theron "Cy" Young, who presided as president pro-tem. Esther Sims had the meditations, which were very interesting and inspirational. It was an unanimous decision for all members to bring bir thday gifts to the next meeting for the residents at Valley-Hi Nursing home. The wrapped gift should be marked for a lady or a gentleman. The program for the evening was provided by Dorothy and Eric Steinbiss, two very fine films from Mattco Productions, which were enjoyed by all. A get well card was signed by all members for Bill Jordan who is in the hospital. The next meeting of the Friendship club will be Saturday Dec. 11, at 6 p.m. Helen and Morris Crouch will be in charge of the program for the evening. Hornets To Hold Dance The McHenry Hornets, members of th£- Northern Illinois Junior Football league, will hold their first annual dance at the V.F.W. in McHenry Saturday, Nov. 27. The McHenry team started in 1963 with fifteen players and a donation of $500 from the V.F.W. The games were played on a make-up schedule whenever some other team had an open date. In 1966, the league was for med with about six teams. Now it has thirteen teams and McHenry plays nine games per season. The McHenry team spends about $1,000 per year for ex penses. This includes in surance, busing to out-of-town games, league fees, footballs and miscellaneous equipment. In the past the registration fee covered the cost but because of the condition of the uniforms, new equipment had to be purchased for the 1971 season. This put the McHenry team in debt. The McHenry Rotary helped with a donation of $500 but the team still needs additional funds. The public is invited to attend the dance and help support the team. Anyone wishing further information may contact the McHenry Hornets at 4520 Riverdale drive, McHenry. Skate Exchange Sponsored By Woman's Club The Woman's Club of Wonder Lake, in preparation for Christmas, is sponsoring an ice skate exchange. The club is also looking forward to its annual Christ mas party for the membership to be held this year at the Branded Steak House Thur sday, Dec. 2. Members and guests are asked to bring a two dollar grab bag gift, and to meet at the Nativity Lutheran church at 7 p.m. where they Benefit Dance Nets $1,975 For College Library Thursday evening, Nov. 18, the McHenry County College Library committee presented a check in the amount of $1,975 to Dr. James R.
