c s~^A>! ),000 HISTORICAL (XIETV BID FOR USEUM ACCEPTED (Continued from oage 1) board has invited £ presentative to appear at the ext meeting. A large sum will be needed at e outset as the roof of the ymnasium has two leaks anc e bond of the roofing com- ny which originally did the ork has expired. The second ig outlay will be to create an partment for a custodian, ith such a big investment in uildings and contents, the society feels it must have someone on guard at all times. It is believed by giving free rent to a retired couple, they would look after the grounds and do light janitorial work. The board feels this apart ment should be created out of the first addition to the school, leaving the original 1870 four- room building intact, restoring it as far as possible to its original layout. Due to lack of heat for the past two years, paint has peeled and dirt and trash have accumulated and must be cleaned up. The janitorial service firms in the county have been contacted, asking them to make a bid on this work. A great deal of volunteer help will be needed in order to open a museum. There will be much painting needed, there will be cleaning up of the artifacts, washing, polishing, mechanical repairs, making cabinets for display, mending costumes, hats, doll clothes, quilts, cur tains, etc. Volunteer of all types of work will be needed. At the board meeting last week two checks were received as donations, donors wishing to remain anonymous. One was for $500 from the McHenry area and one for $3,000 from the Woodstock area. Donors wishing to take advantage of the tax deductible privilege from their 1971 income tax returns can do so by sending check before Dec. 31. The society is registered with the Internal Revenue department as incorporated, not for profit, and donations are therefore tax deductible. The fund raising company will not get under way until after the first of the year but any donations before then will go to pay off the loans and get the roof fixed and apart ment started. Send checks to McHenry County Historical Society, Box 30, Woodstock, HI. 60098. MUSIN' N" MEANDERIN" (Continued from page 1) Helping Paws is doing a wonderful job in securing homes for animals without friends, but they have no power to act as an organization in dealing with owners of neglected pets.
