Two summer homes owned by Herman Smage and Edward Cassin in the Owen, Stenger and Allen subdivision adjoining the McHenry Country club burned to the ground. The blaze fanned by the high wind spread rapidly and was seen for many miles in all directions. Final arrangements for the bazaar, chicken dinner and supper at the M.E. church o n Dec. 3 have been made and everything is under way to make this event one of the biggest of its kind put on by the Ladies Aid Society. Monday, Nov. 23, the Boy Scouts met at their regular meeting. Many Scouts have been advancing in receiving awards very rapidly. There are three Eagle Scouts in the McHenry troop. After the class meetings the Scouts assembled and sang. The songs were "Smiles" and "The Baptist Sunday School." The members of Miss Kor- tendick's cooking class at the high school have made some very attractive center pieces and table decorations for the Thanksgiving day table which are on display at the high school. Among the girls who were interested in making the center pieces were Ruth Klintworth, Elseda Freund, Ellen Smith, Audrey Mc Donald, Clara Freund, Isabelle Blake and Irma Knaack. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of Nov. 28, 1946) The second hunting accident of the season in McHenry county occurred Sunday when Ray Guzzi of Chicago suffered wounds about the face and neck as the result of a shot from a 16 gauge shotgun accidentally discharged by his brother-in- law, Hillard Wieschke. The accident occurred at Lily Lake. Albert E. Rodig of Johnsburg died on Sunday Nov. 24. George Kane spent a recent day in Chicago where he visited with his sister, Mrs. Anna Tweed of Portland, Ore., whom he had not seen in twenty-two years. Lawrence Duchow's Red Raven Victor recording or chestra will be at Nell's ballroom, Johnsburg, Thur sday night, Nov. 28. The William Fialas have received a life size painting of a tiger from their son who is in service in Japan. The very realistic tiger is painted upon nylon. The Legion auxiliary will hold a craft shop sale Saturday, McHenry Savings "Coin of the Week" Start your own collection by picking up your "Coin of the Week" each week at McHenry Savings Early American Coin Replica CFREE to savers at BAR CENT This unglamorous bar cent is undated and of uncertain origin It has thirteen parallel and disconnected bars on one side On the other side is the large Roman USA monogram. This cotrS is believed to be issued at the same time as the Nova Consellation coppers by Thomas Wyon of Birmingham. England. It first circulated in New York in 1785.
