Bet you hear all the gossip in town." That's what my husband says. Well, I'll admit it -- there is talk. When people get together -- whether in a beauty parlor, a barber shop or, in the old days, around the cracker barrel in the general store -- tongues start Hying. It is human nature to talk, to criticize, to complain. But isn't it refreshing to hear something good about someone? Sometimes it takes a lot more strength to say something good than . something bad! Sometimes it takes more strength to stand up and be counted as a churchgoer than it does to sit on the sidelines, espousing neither faith nor cause. Which side are you on? If you're not sure, why not cast your vote for the Church? I ry it next Sunday. "Evelyn Gustafson "7111N. Oak St. "Wonder Lake" "God Preserver Of Man" Title Of Church Theme Divine protection is always at hand. This is a theme of a Bible Lesson-Sermon entitled "God the Preserver of Man" at McHenry Christian Science church services Sunday. "The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore," a Scriptural promise states. P Readings from Science and Health with Key to the Scrip tures by Mary Baker Eddy explain why this is so. One Spring Grove Eva Freund 675-2135 Holiday Mail Instructions By Postmistress Mail early. Please do not disappoint the friends you wish to remember at Christmas. Use Zip Code. Mail is sorted by zip code and this will help to speed your mail along. Use return addresses. And a very good idea is to enclose a slip of paper in a package with the name and address of the addressee, and the contents, in the event that a label or wrapping is torn. All Christmas cards are 8 cents per ounce. Should they be large cards and weigh two ounces, the postage would be 16 cents. Suitably packaged parcels with plenty of packing is another good idea. Separating Christmas cards into city and states,. facing and tying the bundles is a great help. We stress the importance of en dorsements on mail, such as air mail, special delivery, etc. The use of air mail for gift parcels and greeting cards for distant points is highly recommended. If you follow all these suggestions, we, the postal people will help bring you a MERRY CHRISTMAS. IPSA STAMPS CANNOT BE USFD FOR U.S. MAIL Stamps to be produced and issued by the Independent Postal System may not be used on matter being deposited in the U.S. Mails. The U.S. Postal Service has cautioned that mail bearing such stamps if deposited in receptacles for U.S. Mail are subject to return to mailers with postage due charges. Mailers should make certain that the only stamps to be affixed to their letters and packages are the official U.S. Postage stamps, if they want to insure prompt delivery. REMOVAL OF SNOW By all appearances we may expect those heavy snowfalls any day. Cooperation from rural customers will be greatly appreciated. Customers are responsible for keeping ap proaches to their rural mail boxes clear of snow, and all other obstructions which may make delivery of mail difficult or at times impossible. Rural carriers are not required, however, to provide service on foot when roads are impassable nor should they be required to attempt delivery by motor vehicle during periods when civil authorities inform the public not to travel on public streets and highways. The wreath contains f o u r c a n d l e s , o n e b e i n g l i t 2 on the first Sunday in Advent S (Nov. 28th this year) and j* two the next Sunday, three the next and four the Sunday > before Christmas. Many of our churches s teach that advent is the sea- £ son one should prepare for £ the advent of the Savior on ^ the 25th; in some there are 2 elaborate rituals. But there £ is doubt over when the prac tice began. Aside from specifically prescribed rituals or specific beliefs, the custom of using a wreath with four candles has been adopted by more and more Americans of all faiths, just as Santa Claus c o m e s i n t o a l m o s t e v e r y home. It's a good custom, for the candles and wreath are reminders of a happy time to come, and if an accepted custom in the home, lit at each of four successive Sunday dinner tables, tney add a warmth, and often a Christian atmosphere, to these days. Sounds modern, but written in 59 B.C.: "We love our new home in the country, as it is near Babylon and its ad vantages, yet away from its noise, rush and smells." -
