J . . f The Law Serves You THE PIED PIPER - The fifth grade class of Mr. Sanders at Edgebrook school this past week presented a play, "ThtPltd Piper". In thllCC6M, the piper makes a deal with the mayor to rid the town of rats. The Pied Piper is played by Greg Jones and the mayor by David White. In this scene, the Piper leads the children toward the mountain. -Following Greg Jones are Sandra Grant, Lisa Ziebel, Cheryl McNish, Carlos Salazar and Mark Fowler. O FROZEN PIPES ^ Winter weather often means jg frozen pipes. And one common >5 method of thawing those pipes * is by hooking an electric welder & to the pipe. Hook one electrode > to one end of the frozen area v and the other electrode to the FBFM RECORDS The majority of Illinois' full- time farmers sell $40,000 of produce every year. " And over 25 percent of these operators keep records with the farm management analysis program offered by the Illinois Farm Business Farm Management association. Each farmer enrolled receives year-end cash-flow, profit and loss, .and net worth charts and a comparative analysis report. The reports^ are prepared by electronic computers in cooperation with the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service. The program's service and education offered through full- time specially trained fieldmen has helped thousands of Illinois farmers learn more about themselves and their business. This explains why 95 percent of those enrolled stay with the program year after year. The member farmers compare results with other farmers who operate similar size and type farms. All in formation is confidential and individual records are not identified in the group reports. ISBA Foresees A Shortage Of Lawyers There are over 350,000 lawyers in the United States today, but more are needed to handle the needs of our multi- faceted society, according to the Illinois State Bar association. The percentage of lawyers in relation to the population is dropping. The shortage of lawyers could soon be a problem, says ISBA, given the growing complexities of business and government, and the necessity for all citizens to function within a framework of laws from cradle to grave. One reason behind the declining ratio of lawyers to population, according to many practicing attorneys, may be the failure of our educational system to present the legal profession realistically. Hence, mjpx young people think that berconVing a lawyer is an extremely difficult, almost insurmountable goal. In ad dition, ml^ny tend to associate the profession with dramatic television episodes like "Perry Mason" or "The Young Lawyers." Neither of these conceptions are accurate, says ISBA. J The pseudo-glamour and excitement as portrayed on Many farmers say the enrollment cost is paid by the savings made on income tax with complete records edited by the trained fieldmen. The system is designed to make records relevant to each farmer's needs for planning, getting loans and actual record keeping. Persons planning to enroll for 1972 should check details now at their county extension office, Woodstock, Illinois - phone 815- 338-3737. other end. However, opportunities do abound in the legal profession for playing an active vital role in almost any facet of our society. There is a division of legal practice that fits the in clinations of most any qualified individual. The ISBA recommends these qualities as basic to success in the legal profession: good character, common sense, self- reliance, patience, ability to think and write logically, an aptitude for . analyzing problems/ and the courage to defend personal convictions. All of these, notes ISBA, are not uncommon traits among today's bright younger generation. Tuition costs in law schools vary, with some charging as much as $1,500 a year ( not including books and board). Some state schools offer tuitions as low as $600 a year. In addition, many private law schools give scholarships to students with outstanding records. There are also various loan programs available to qualified students. What about opportunities for women? According to ISBA, the first woman admitted to the practice of law in America was in 1872. Today, more than 6,000 are actively practicing with a large concentration involved in government work. If you would like additional information about the study of law, write the Illinois State Bar Association, Springfield, Illinois, 62701, for a free copy of Preparing To Be A Lawyer. PAGE 11-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 29, 1971 Tr Iowa and Illinois normally produce one-third of all pigs grown in U.S. WINTER-BURN Winter-burn on evergreens is excessive drying of the needles during cold weather, low humidity and'* windy days. Broad and narrow-leaved evergreens hold their foliage during the winter and continue to give off moisture. Evergreens growing in sunny or windy locations require more water than those in protected areas. Thoroughly water all evergreens now and if there's a winter thaw give your shrubs another drink. Loose burlap covers help protect yews and other evergreen shrubs from severe winter-burn. Winter-burn or dehydration of evergreens during the winter will eventually turn the plant a dead, or brown, color in March. HEAT LAMPS You can make your baby pig, heat-lame heating system automatic. - Heat lamps can be modulated in groups of up to twelve lamps with the use of a solid state thermistor controlled unit. The unit will adjust lamp output to changing temperatures. SANTA IN ANY SIZE -- It was the long (bottom photo) and the short of Santa at Edgebrook school on the last day before a long vacation.
