If you'll rub the threads of the screws with a slightly wet bar of soap, your twisting will be much easier. By Anne Ashley Q. Can you suggest an easy remedy for a lamp cord that is too long? A. Try wrapping the cord tightly around a broom handle for a day. This will cause the cord to spiral, thus shortening it. Q. How can 1 make a good silverware cleaner? A. One excellent agent for cleaning silverware is common lump starch, rubbed on with a damp cloth, allowed to remain for a few minutes, then rubbed dry with cheesecloth. Q. How can I loosen postage stamps that have become stuck together? A. These stamps will separate much more easily if you place them in the refrigerator for a time. Or, put them under a piece of thin paper and run a hot iron over the paper very lightly. The stamps will then pull apart quite easily. # Q. What can I do about leather shoes or boots that have become hardened due to rain or snow? A. Kerosene will soften them and make the leather pliable again. Q. How can I quickly clear up the steam that accumulates in the bathroom after a hot shower? A. By turning the cold water on full force. )' Q. What causes new paint to sometimes flake off walls? A. Usually because there are too many coats of paint under it. It is best to remove all the old layers of paint right down to the plaster and start from scratch. MRS.
