The MCHS swimmers dunked Wheeling 61 to 33. The sophomore basketball Warriors won their first Mundelein holiday tournament ever as they defeated North Chicago in the finals by a 48-41 score. Mark Bentz was leading scorer and Roger Ludwig was captain. McHenry Warriors gained a first place tie in the North Suburban conference by defeating Woodstock 79-58. The wrestling Warriors got back on the victory trail when they defeated Woodstock 23-17. S.I.H. traveled to Woodstock to watch the Marian Central Hurricanes defeat Marmion by four points in a game that had everybody goofy at the final gun. He was impressed with the four McHenry boys in the lingup, John Bolton, Gary Harrison, John Brda and Tim Lafontaine. A Woodstock boy, Randy Jackson, is the son of a former McHenry athlete, Joe Jackson Zion Benton upset the wrestling Warriors at West campus by a 23-21 score. Sophomore squad edged St. Ed's 52-51 and lost a heart- breaker to Marmion, 54-52. The Sophomore Warriors won their thirteenth basketball game of the year without a loss as they turned back Woodstock, 73-39. The freshman "B" team won a 78-36 contest against Woodstock to run their season record to 4-1. The freshman team defeated Woodstock 50-35. The Warriors lost their grip on first place spot in the North Suburban league when they were beaten soundly at North Chicago 69-48 and then on their home battlegrounds were defeated by the Broncos of Barringtori 65-52. The Spartans of St. Francis witnessed the power of the Marian Hurricanes as the Canes took two games from them. The sophomore score was 63-61 and the varsity won 75-48. Marian dropped two games in non-conference action to strong Rockford-Boylan teams. Sophomores, 57-56 and Varsity, 77-55. FEBRUARY The fighting Warriors dropped their fourth straight game as they ran into two very deliberate offensive teams and were beaten by Crystal Lake and lost to Kaneland by iden tical 47-42 scores. The Sophomore basketball Warriors got back on the winning track when they defeated Crystal Lake, 63-49 and Kaneland, 71-50. The fresh men team dropped a 46-39 decision to a strong Crystal Lake squad. It was the first home defeat in nearly three years for the Warriors. Their record is now 7 to 2. The wrestling Warriors defeated a strong Crystal Lake squad by a score of 23-17. The Sophomore wrestling team took second place at the Reavis high school quadrangular. Montini Mustangs junior varsity finished their season with a 26-19 victory over the Wauconda Warriors. They became conference champions with a conference record of 9-1 and an overall record of 11-2. Marian Central varsity were defeated by St. Ed's of Elgin in a tight game, 44-43. The Warriors surged back in contention for the league title by beating Dundee and Liberty ville. The Sophomore cagers run season record to 18-1 with wins over Dundee, 80-64 and Liberty ville, 51-35. The McHenry Warriors saw all hopes for a possible con ference championship elude them as they dropped a pair of heart-breaking decisions to Barrington (47-44) and North Chicago (51-44). Sophomore Cagers downed Barrington and North Chicago making their record 22-1. The freshmen team added two more victories to their total as they routed Barrington 74-49 and then out-lasted North Chicago 61-55. The freshmen now own a 15-2 season record. MARCH McHenry ended their regular season play on a triumphant note to defeat the Crystal Lake Tigers 62-48. The Warriors placed two players on the all- conference basketball team, Jerry Miller and Bruce Har- becke. The sophomore basketball Warriors defeated Crystal Lake 74-46 in their season finale. The young Warriors thus ended up with a 23 and 1 record. The freshmen basketball team avenged an early season loss to Crystal Lake as they stormed back from a 36-23 halftime deficit to defeat the Tigers 58- 49. They finished the season with JTH6-2 season record. Marian Central, winner of the district tournament at Cary, defeated McHenry high school in regional play at Elgin in triple overtime thriller, 81-75. Four players on Marian's team are from McHenry. S.I.H., otherwise known as Earl Walsh, McHenry's leading Irishman celebrated St. Patrick's day in grand fashion by attending the parade in Chicago at the invitation of a former St. Patrick's Day queen, Madonna Casey. He shook hands with his honor Mayor Daley The varsity basketball team of MCHS defeated the un stoppable faculty by a score of 65-52. In the GAA all star games held at the high school the sophomores beat the freshmen, 28-14. The Seniors beat the Juniors 37-35. The varsity track team got off to a good start as they took second place in a four team indoor meet at Niles East high school. They finished with 744 points A group of 23 adults from the Harmony Snowmobile club and 8 teen-age boys from the Teen Club of Harmony took a trip to West Yellowstone, Mont , on a (Continued on page 12)
