Witnesses In Three-Day Area Meeting The impressive public talk, "Can You Live Forever?-Will You?" was the highlight of the three-day convention of Jehovah's Witnesses this past weekend in Rockford. The talk delivered by R.L Balzer on Sunday afternoon had an at tendance of 2,288. In his discourse, Mr. Balzer asked, "How long do you hope to live? Nearly all persons expect to die short of 100 and most do! Few even want to reach 100. Why? Because as life's forces ebb slowly away, men's hopes for future dim; his plans are few and weak; the pleasure of living is gone. The Bible shows that man's original life-span Was unlimited. He said, "If this is so, should there not be some evidence of that design in man's body and brain? Yes! And there is! Man alone has the ability and the capacity to go on learning and progressing forever. One authority said an electronic computer made to match the human brain would have to be as large as the Empire State building in New York." Saturday morning, fifty-six were baptised at the Boys Club pool. "Baptism" said Mr. O. Schader, circuit represen tative, "Is a symbol of dedicating one's life to doing the will of Almighty God, Jehovah. Set Topic To Be Examined At Church Service How is life actually sustained? This is a question to be examined Sunday at the McHenry Christian Science church services. "Man shall not live by bread alone, but every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God," a passage from Matthew reads in the Bible Lesson- Sermon on "Life". From Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, this citation will be read: "Whatever is governed by God, is never for an instant deprived of the light and might of intelligence and Life." Services at Christian Science Society, Lincoln road & Eastwood Lane, are conducted by Myrtle Ohman, the First Reader, and Joy Dass, the Second Reader. The Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend. '.4 Better World If you don't like the world you are living in, do something about it. Turn your world around. You cannot bring peace to the Far East. You cannot feed all those who are hungry in your home town. But, you can make a better world, your part of it. You begin with self. What you are. What you do. You include family, friends, neighbors, busi ness acquaintances. If you work for peace, happiness, brother hood, within this circle, your world will surely begin to change. Your struggle for a better world can be contagious. It will "rub off" on those with whom you come in contact. Do not expect miracles. Just put the right foot forward and watch for the change that will surely come. DIAl-A-DEVOnON PHONE Hear God's Word Wherever You Are. Thev Happy People In Town Are Those Who Read the McHENRY PLAINDEALER... l in s A One stormy night our lights went out. The blackness was total. Little Mary screamed and grabbed me. The boys, trying to be brave, banged across the room. I comforted them, trying to hold all against the terrors of the dark. Then the back door banged, and there was Bob standing in the door holding a lighted candle. "Daddy, Daddy," cried the chil dren, their fears forgotten, as the room resumed its safe proportions in the light. Gaily they helped to light the candles and build a roar ng fire How like that candle is my church. The spiritual resources it offers light my life with a sense of proportion and confidence, no matter how dark things seem Your church can brighten your life, if you give it a chance.
