Court Will Hold Winter Wonderland The next meeting of Court Joyce Kilmer No. 573, Catholic Daughters of America, will be held Thursday, Jan. 20, at 8 p.m., in the K.C. hall, 1304 N. Park street. As there are many important deisions to be made at this meeting, all members are urged to be present. A Winter Wonderland social will follow the business meeting. JANUARY 1972 Newcomers Planning Annual Style Revue Clam Bisque -- Good Any Time Bisques are hearty soups -- good any time, but made to order for wintry days. They can be the mainstay of a lunch eon, the first course of a din ner or a satisfying treat after vigorous work or play. Most often these soups are made from shellfish, but they can also have a pureed veg etable base. Made with milk and light cream, bisques are given extra body by the add ition of a small amount ot corn starch. Clam Bisque •4 cup margarine 2 tablespoons corn starch J4 teaspoon pepper Liquor from canned clfuns Milk to bring volume of liquor to 1 y2 tups 1 cup light cream 1 (8-ounce) can minced clams Melt margarine in 2 quart saucepan. Remove from heat. Add corn starch and pepper and stir until smooth. Drain clams, reserving liquor. Add enough milk to make 1 % cups liquid. Gradually stir into corn starch mixture. Stir in cream. Cook over medium heat, stir ring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil and boils 1 minute. Add minced clams and boil 1 minute. Makes 3 cups or about 4 ( \ cup) servings. Note: For Lobster Bisque, use 1 (8 ounce) can lobster. Drain off and discard liquid. Use 1 *4 cups milk and add H teaspoon salt. Harold C. McKenney, a Crystal Lake attorney, will speak to the group about "Wills". Mr. McKenney has been a partner in the firm of Covey, McKenney & Powers for ten years and is president of the McHenry County Bar association. As a member of its Public Relations committee, Mr. McKenney will explain to the ladies the im portance of a will, and how to set one up. Hostesses for the evening will be Mrs. Gerhard Graedler, Mrs. Gordon Gran, Mrs. William Harvey, Mrs. Francis Higgins, and Mrs. Frank Houda. Coffee and dessert will be served. Presidents Club Enjoys Lunch; Holds Auction The McHenry County Presidents club met early this month at Orsolini's in Rich mond for a 12:30 luncheon. Richmond members hosted the club meeting attended by twenty-three members and guests. At the last McHenry Town and Country Newcomers club meeting, it was announced that plans are being made for the second annual style show The social event with coffee, dessert and cards will be headed by Mrs. Kent Truckenbrod and Mrs. Paul Gavlinski as co-chairmen. Mrs. Carl Grinstead, president, presided over the monthly business meeting and welcomed guests - Mesdames Roger Sass, John Gacek, Jim Rees, Darryl Helin and Jim Dorris. A small token of appreciation was presented to Mrs. John Beam, chairman of the recent Fun and Goodie bazaar, which enabled the club to purchase and distribute toys to the many deserving children in and around the McHenry area. McHenry March of Dimes canister chairman, Mrs. Michael Crist, reported that the first collection of the canisters had been made and the public response is greatly ap preciated. Mrs. Crist stated, "The need is great and the canisters will remain until the end of January. So the next time you pass a canister, share a little for a worthwhile cause." Swingles To Winter Rally Swingles, an organization of single young adults, met Thursday, Jan. 13, to finalize plans for the state Rural Youth Winter rally. The rally will be held at the University of Illinois, Urbana, Jan. 28, 29 and 30. The theme is "Drive Alive!" and will feature a defensive driving course in addition to the annual business meeting and social events. McHenry County Swingles will present the non- denominational service during the rally. Pat Sullivan, Sue Ross and Don Arnold, Cooperative Extension ad visers in McHenry county, will be attending a conference running simultaneously with the rally. The topic will be "Programming For Young Adult Groups". Swingles is affiliated with Illinois Rural Youth and is open to anyone in McHenry and Lake counties, regardless of place of residence.
