About 20 years ago they moved to the community of Wonder Lake where the city doctor became the good country doctor and the story of thtf ten little Ruggeros and how they grew was produced. To celebrate their anniversary the doctor and his bride of 25 years returned to Chicago where they enjoyed a delicious dinner and saw the play "Status Quo Yadis", which Mary described as a really funny satire on life. They also visited the Art In­ stitute and dined on some in- TOPS UNIT TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), a nationwide organization pledged to help persons lose weight, will have a local unit here in Wonder Lake. NEW DAUGHTER Mr and Mrs James Strom, 5404 W Lake Shore Drive, Wonder Lake, announce the birth of a daughter on Jan. 4 in McHenry hospital. The baby has been named Carolyn Jane and weighed 6 lbs.) 54 ozs., at birth. Carolyn hap a brother, Douglas, 12, and a sister, Susan, 5. Maternal grand­ mother is Mrs. Lillian Skiba, Phoenix, Ariz., and paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. G.L Strom, Wonder Lake. Mrs. Ivouise Kallick of San Diego, Calif., is Carolyn's maternal great grandmother. BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION Miss Teresa Berner of Woodstock was pleasantly surprised on Friday, Jan" 7, when she walked into a nearby restaurant with her niece, Mrs. Pat Stilling of Richmond, and found four more of her nieces sitting at a table waiting to sing out a cheery "Happy Birthday, Aunt Tess!" The lady of the day was presented with flowers and following a delicious luncheon, blew out the traditional candles on the cake. The rest of the cake eaters were Mrs. Jo Larsen and Mrs. Edie Berner of Woodstock, Mrs. Adele Hubbe of Elgin and Mrs. Jean Huff of Wonder Lake. Such a good time was had by these six ladies that they are considering celebrating Mr. Lincoln's birthday in February in the same way. ( * JAZZ CLINIC Richard Mikus, Supervisor of Music at Harrison School in Wonder Lake, announces plans have been made with the Harrison School Band Parents Association and Marian Cen­ tral high school in Woodstock to sponsor a Jazz Clinic at Marian on Wednesday evening, Jan. 26. The DePaul University Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Joe Casey, will be available at the clinic and will play at the concert to follow. Music Company of Elk Grove will be funishing a jazz in­ strument display and jazz music display for browsing by all interested persons. The clinic is available to any area musicians and any interested person. It will be followed by a concert at 8 p.m. by the DePaul University Jazz Ensemble and the public is invited. Mr. Mikus wishes to extend a personal invitation to all musicians in the area to come to the clinic and stay to hear some fine musicians from DePaul. TWENTIETH BIRTHDAY A happy birthday to Miss Lynn Wines, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wines of Wooded Shores. Lynn leaves the world of the teen-agers on Jan. 19 when she will be 20 years old. Her name is on the Dean's List at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she is a sophomore majoring in Art. Another member of the Wines family, Bill, celebrated his twenty-first birthday on Nov. 30. Bill is a senior at Northern Illinois University, majoring in Business Administration and Accounting. Phi Kappa Sigma is his fraternity and his name also appears on the Dean's List. VISITS DISNEY WORLD Disney World in Florida is much in the news today and one Wonder Lake family was among the thousands who went there over the Christmas holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bluemel of Wooded Shores and their children, Robin, Dale, Kevin and Ted, described their visit there as great, but crowded. Though there was much standing in lines and waiting, about Vfe hour at each attraction, the Bluemels thought the World was very, very good and they liked it a lot. While visiting Mrs. Bluemel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bournonville of Port Richey, Florida, they also took side trips to Busch Gardens, the Witchee Watchee Mermaid Show and Homosassa Springs, which was a favorite of the Bluemel family. MEMBERSHIP DINNER DANCE The American Legion Post No. 1169 in Wonder Lake will sponsor < membership dinner and dance on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 6:30 p.m., honoring the members and Auxiliary of Post 1169 for their years of con­ tinuous membership in the American Legion. All members and their wives, all Auxiliary members and their husbands are invited. Legionnaires will receive lapel pins with years imprinted on them for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 , 30 and 50 years. , Auxiliary members will receive honor guards, which attaches to the membership pin with 5, 10,15, 20 and 25 years to ! show years of continuous ' membership. ANNUAL RETREAT Ladies of Christ the King church are asked to keep the weekend of March 17-19 in mind. The annual retreat at the Bishop Lane Retreat House in Rockford has been scheduled for the women of the parish for this date. CONDOLENCES Our condolences to the John Wines and the John Dyck families. Mrs. Dyck received news on New Year's Day that her sister's grandson, Kevin Lemke, 11, of Northlake, had died rather suddenly of a diabetic coma. The youngster had been a healthy boy and his diabetic condition was unknown. BIRTHDAY GREETINGS Birthday greetings to young James Berner of Woodstock who finds out what it's like to be a teenager on Jan. 19, his thirteenth birthday. And to Karen Dusthimer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Dusthimer, who blows out 11 candles on Jan. 21. And to our good neigh­ bor Caren Walquist up on the hill who doesn't tell us her age anymore, but we still call her "the kid". Happy birthday to Caren on the twentieth. Court date Jan. 19 LEGISLATOR SERVES Sen. Karl Berning, R- Deerfield, was elected secretary of the Legislative Advisory committee to the Northeastern Illinois Planning commission at its recent organizational meeting. The joint House-Senate committee is directed to counsel NIPC (Northeastern Illinois Planning commission) which is the regional coordinating agency serving Cook, DuPage, Lake, McHenry, Kane and Will counties in Illinois and two Indiana counties. NIPC was created by the general assembly to devise a master development plan for the eight- county area. It now seeks to relate the problems of county and municipal government to the total plans of the region. FARM TAX HELPS Gov. Richard B. Ogilvie asked legislators last week to abolish the personal property tax on all farm property. In a special message to the General Assembly, the goverfwr called for swift enactment of the exemption because "we owe the Illinois farmer and his family the simple justice and additional measure of financial security which this legislation will provide."
