Presentations included songs by Patti Anderson, Annette ALFALFA VARIETIES The first step to getting top alfalfa yields in 1972 and later years is selecting a high yielding variety. And to make the best selection, you need plenty of information from as many sources as possible. The University of Illinois' variety-testing program for alfalfa has been more active than programs for other forage crops. Varieties that have been on test for at least three years are ranked according to yield performance. And the rankings are published each year to give Illinois farmers a guide to selecting varieties likely to do best in their areas. The 10 top-yielding alfalfa varieties for northern Illinois are as follows: Thor, WL 306, Weevlchek, WL 305, Dominor, WL 210, WL 303, 520, Saranac, and ATRA 55. Many of these varieties resist bacterial wilt and stands should last more than five years if properly managed, fertilized, and are provided proper drainage. It's not necessary for a good politician to be a liar, but many an3. Boarini and Bill Dicker, plus several humorous skits. Highlight of the freshmen troupe's skits was a song parody on a popular TV c o m m e r c i a l , e n t i t l e d "Everybody Likes It - Marian Central!" After this entertainment, the 375 visitors attended the fresh- men-sophomore and varsity basketball games against St. Francis. Freshmen girls provided the baked goodies for refreshments between games. The Activity Night ended with a most popular event, a dance for the seventh, eighth and ninth graders present. Both the number of students present and the tremendous response by the seventh and eight grade students while they were attending the activities indicated a very successful program.
