A summer. 1972, wedding is planned. kittle by little, seems as though the social trend o' the times, requires indulgence in hard beverages. Sad it was, when prohibition was repealed. Some folks practiced illegal vendin' o' the potent drink, but all in all, the law kept it out o' the neighborhoods, where young folks could git at it. The minority had it then, but nowadays a supply's on hand in the homes. Statistics prove that about 50 per cent o' accidents 're caused by the affect o' strong drink, an' it does me heart good t' hear that steps may be taken t' control the use o' it, by drastic means dealt t' offenders. One thing, obvious t' this ol' lady, is the way churches, which abhored strong beverages an' also the use o' t'baccy, ha' gradually come around, perhaps in order t' keep the congregation intact, an' the use o' it ain't a fer- bidden vice as in the past. Young folks, in days past, wuz constantly reminded o' the dangers o' indulgence, an' lectures an' programs en- LINDA LOU BLAKE ENGAGED - Mr and Mrs. Wilfred Blake, Sr., of 617 S Lily Lake road, McHenry, announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Lou. to Keith Klontz. son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Klontz of 3606 W. Lake Shore drive, McHenry, became the bride of James Kloeckner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kloeckner of 3822 W. Waukegan road, McHenry. They repeated their nuptial vows before Pastor Ohlson at the 4:30 afternoon services. The bride wore a full length gown of organza enhanced with alencon lace, beaded pearls and crystal trim. The traditional gown was fashioned with scoop neckline, long tapered sleeves and a detachable train Her three- tiered veil fell from a pearl beaded crown headpiece. She carried a bridal bouquet of white roses, carnations and stephanotis. The bride's sister, Joni Belch of Wonder Lake was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Kathy Gahagan and Cherri Elbersen, both of Wonder Lake. The attendants wore full length plum velvet gowns featuring long sleeves, scoop necklines with white lace inserts and matching plum accessories. Each carried a pink elegant nosegay. Ricki Karls of McHenry served as best man. Groom smen were Ron Kloeckner of McHenry and Louie Myrgle of Wonder Lake. Dale Jirousek and Frank Howorka served as ushers. The bride's mother chose a coat and dress ensemble of puppets or actually human performers. Though they are only one-third life size the lighting techniques seem to magnify the entire show. The magic of Aladdin is available for young and old to wiUiu>s with their own eyes. Any member of the Crystal Lake Jaycee auxiliary has tickets or they may be purchased at the door. MODERNIZE YOUR BATHROOM couraged em t' sign a pledge, t' th' affect that they wouldn't indulge in strong drink 'r the use o't'baccy. Seems t' me that the effect o' signin' a pledge might affect the mind in sich a way as t' cause a guilty feelin' if the promise wuz broken, an' it jist might be beneficial again, in this generation, at least, among the young. O' course, there's alius a goin' to' be those who take promises lightly, but if only a few take it seriously, there's bound t' be some good results. There's a strong argiment that wine wuz the beverage o' the day, in centuries past, but the fact that water stood in open vessles until used, an' wuz scarce, too, causin' problems in havin' good drinkin' water. Wi' the facilities we have, an' water fit fer drinkin' right from the tap, there ain't the need fer alcoholic beverages, an' the sooner folks git back t' havin' a social gatherin' wi'out depend!n' on alcohol f pepup the party, the better off our society 11 be. Some o' us older folks 've watched the demoralization o' society, over the past number o' years an' this country never saw so much o' it, until now. Seems t' this ol' lady, that the example, set by folks we trust, t' administer operations o' government, affects the people, 'specially the younguns, an' when the example is that o' dishonesty, disloyalty t' their responsibilities, an' in- consideration o' the position in society, in which we've placed 'em, the younguns git the idee that it's the way the adult world's conducted. Gradually, the moral fiber suffers decay, an' the entire society suffers from the disease. Long ago, when the churches wuz more strict, folks observed those restrictions, an' it wuz considered degradin' to' serve hard drink in the home, among middle class folks. The worldly've indulged, we know, but the average youngun grew up wi' out having' it flaunted in his pres&tce, as t'day. The demoralizin' effect it has is obvious, t' day. The breakin' down o' adult moral fiber alius influences the younguns. High moral struc ture produces strong posterity. Some folks think that the down trend's been influenced by certain adverse influence, an' as I sit here, a rockin' an' a worry in' about the whole wide world, an' recall, more 'n fif teen years ago, the warnin's that certain action, by sub versive agents wuz the in filtration o' our main in stitutions, I cain't help won- derin' how true the wamin' wuz. Time 's passed, an' the destructive forces seem to've accomplished their end. The job o' cleaning' up our society's the biggest job this country 's ever tackled. It's like cleanin' up a filthy house, an' it's goin' t' take a good superintendent t' accomplish th' task. The man in charge 's tryin't' start the trend upward, but three years 's a short time t' clean up the results o' the mistakes made o'er the past forty years an' more. Seems t' me, after all these years o' observin', that a good start 'd be in cleanin' up the moral structure by in doctrination o' the young, in the teachin' o' the true Christian attitude, toward life, an' 'emselves. One needs t' love an' respect oneself, afore he kin love others. Parents need t' command respect from the little ones, an' not be enticed inter giyin' in t' whims an' fanciesrWe need some good ol' fashioned parents, once more, t' start a new trend toward a better society. Wi'out the kind o' folks, it takes, t' build a better world, by rearin' the younguns t' be strong in moral fiber, we ain't a goin't' git very far. Parents have difficulty in visualizin' the offspring as grownups, an' individuals w' ideess o' their own, so' they better plant the right seeds, t' harvest the desirable crop. • New Tub »New Toilet • Formica Vanity •Ceramic Tile in Tub Area • Inlaid Vinyl Floor •Choice of New Lighting Fixtures • New Medicine white and gold brocade with gold accessories. Complete Plans For Sheepherders Of Church Hold March Of Dimes Benefit SiUy Supper Sally O'Grady of Crystal Lake, teen action program chairman for the McHenry County March of Dimes, an nounced recently that plans are nearly complete for the sixth annual March of Dimes Benefit dance which will be held Sunday, Jan. 30, from 3 to 9 p.m., in the Crystal Lake high school fieldhouse. She an nounced the names of her county-wide committee which is working hard to make this dance a success. The com mittee includes Jack Dusthimer of Wonder Lake. Popular WCFL disc jockey, Ted Anthony, will be on hand at the dance, along with six of the most popular rock groups in the Chicagoland area. The McHenry County TAP group invites teen-agers to support this dance which contributes needed funds to birth defects research. "Nearly a quarter million babies are born each year," says Sally O'Grady, the TAP chairman, "with serious defects such as deafness, blindness, missing limbs and mental retardation We hope that our efforts through the TAP will in some way help to bring an end to those dreaded problems. We hope that teen-ageFs throughout the area will do their share in fighting birth defects." Any adult who would like to assist the teenagers by chaperoning at the dance may call 815-459-2720 for in formation. At the well-attended event, members were presented with a numbered menu divided into four courses. Each of the items on the menu had a very misleading name and each person attending had to eat whatever he unknowingly ordered for a particular course before the next course was served. The silverware items were also numbered on the menu and many people did not receive their silverware until the third or fourth courses of the supper. Various members ate ice cream with sticks of bread, and others ate spaghetti using pickles or celery as their eating utensils. That is what makes for a silly supper. As part of the evening's entertainment, old-time movies were shown by Grace Morris and a clown act was presented by Ken Schopp. Those serving the silly supper included Gene and Leith Honning, Myron and Grace Morris, and Harold and S h i r l e y K i v l e y .
