Student Presents Program At Church Dinner Remember this Sunday, Jan. 30, is the parish-wide pot-luck dinner at the Ringwood Methodist church at 12:30. Following the noon meal we will have the program presented by the AFS student attending McHenry high school, Deneval Azevedo Filho of Brazil. Dene will show slides while he tells us about his country. Bring a dish to pass, your own table service and let's give Dene and his American family, the C .R. Bromans of McHenry, a warm welcome. Seems very gentle and good with kids. This group had a fun time as per usual and the top scores of the evening were won by Bill and Shirley Cristy. ABOUT TOWN Those young people home from college for the semester break are Linda Hosier and Larry Cristy. If we've missed anyone, please remember it would help us to keep up if you or your mom would call us and help keep us posted. Last Wednesday of last week Emma Ortlieb of McHenry had lunch with Doris Low and her three grandsons (Scott and Lee Miller and Eddie Erwin). Then in the afternoon she spent some time with Mr and Mrs. Clyde Wright. Linda (Low) and Bill Billikas are now residents of Dubuque, Iowa, as of last week. Bill is continuing his studies at the U. of Dubuque and of course Linda went along. She will sign up for substitute teaching. She has taught the first grade at Sharon, Wis., for the past lVfc years. Good luck kids. The cold weather must really be keeping people home as we haven't heard from very many people on the news end. So folks when you warm up and get to UNIT 491 by Pearl Cooper Thirty members ,were present at the January meeting of the McHenry unit of the American Legion auxiliary, conducted by President, Mrs. David (Doris) Henken. All members were reminded of the annual membership dinner, which will be cooked and served by the Legion Rifle squad Saturday, Feb. 26, with cocktails at 6:30 and dinner at 7 p.m. This dinner will be held at the American Legion post home and is free to all paid up members of the unit. Husbandis and guests are invited for dancing at 9 p.m. Reservations must be made with Mrs. Robert G. (Marilyn) Miller by Feb. 21. The auxiliary charter was draped for departed member, Marion Schoenholtz, by President Doris Henken and Chaplain Pearl Cooper. A citation from the American Legion, Department of Illinois, was received by the unit for the annual Gift to Hospitalized War Veterans donation. Mrs. Martha Dignan an­ nounced that the McHenry unit will take treats to the Wood­ stock home Friday, Jan. 21, also that forty-eight families were helped with baskets at Christmas. Mrs. Dignan is Children and Youth chairman. All members and interested persons are asked to write to their Congressmen to change Veterans Day date back to the original date of Nov. 11 and Memorial Day back to May 30. The request was made of Legislative chairman, Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Grobel. Donations were sent for the auxiliary loan fund and scholarship fund and to the Nurse's Scholarship fund in the name of the past presidents. Now we start a new month and Clyde Wright is the first on the list with the first as his natal day. Mr. Wright will be 85 years young. McHenryCouple Observes 50th Anniversary jj Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wachna of 2222 Spojnia road, McHenry, will celebrate the occasion of their golden wed­ ding anniversary Sunday, Jan. 3(L They have been residents of the area for the past twenty- five years. Mass will be offered for the couple at St. Francis National church, Flanders road, to start the celebration. The Wachnas' son, the Rev. Martin Wachna, will officiate at the Mass, and a nephew, Rev. John Strzalka, pastor of the local church, will be organist. Dinner will be served at the church rtall, followed by open house at 8 p.m. Sophie Jover and Micael Wachna of Peckville, Pa., were married in Pennsylvania Jan. 28, 1922 Mr. Wachna retired from the Santa Fe railroad five years ago. He is past master of the McHenry Masonic lodge. His wife is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and both belong to the White Shrine. In earlier years in the East, Mr. Wachna was active with the Legion and as a Boy Scout leader The couple has four children, Mrs. John (Joan) Brosky of McHenry, Mrs. Robert (Ann) Gorniak of Schaumburg, Michael Wachna, Jr., of McHenry, and the Rev. Martin Wachna of Chicago. They also have six grandchildren.
