V Sophs Win Pair Over * Dundee And Libertyville PAGE 7-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 2, 1972 by Fred Kusch Coach Gary Collins' Sophomore Warriors continued their winning ways this past weekend as they stacked up theil" 14th and 15 victories of the season by defeating the Cards of Dundee and the Wildcats of Libertyville. The Warriors 14th victory of the season came at the cost of Dundee. In a thrilling overtime contest the Warriors nipped the bid of the 'Birds by 2 points as they won 62-60. Coach Collins was extremely happy about the team effort and specifically about the contributions made by Mike Cajthamal and Kip Novotny who came off the bench to spur the Warriors' victory. The Warriors had a balanced offensive attack as .4 players scored in double figures. Novotny led the Warriors with 16, Himpelman had 13, Choate 12, and Cajthamal 11. The Warriors controlled the boards as well as Novotny pulled down 10, Cajthamal 9 and reliable Ed Choate had 8. In the "Friendly Confines of Buckner Gym" Saturday night the Warriors hosted the Wildcats of Libertyville. The Warriors proved to be not too friendly a host as they whipped the 'Cats 45-38. Again the story was a fine team effort as the Warriors held their opponents to less than 40 points. Ben Himpelman led the Warriors attack with 16 points, Dan Camasta contributed 12 and Ed Choate had 9 big points. Again the Warriors controlled the boards as Ed Choate pulled down 13 rebounds and Kip Novotny muscled the s10 rebounds away from the 'Cats. The Warrior record is now a fine 15-3 mark. Friday night the Warriors play Zion at Zion H.S. Come out and see them play. They suffered a 37 to 29 defeat at Montini, and then lost at home to Hickory Hill by a score of 46 to 30. The game at Montini was played before an overflow crowd, and the Mustangk responded by han ding the Trojans their 5th loss. The Mustangs were led Ky the scoring of M. Tonyan and the rebounding of S. Koerber. The Trojans were led by S. Freund, who came off the bench and did a whale of a job. Then two days later, the first place Tigers of Hickory Hill beat the Trojans 46 to 30. The Trojans got into early foul trouble, and this undoubtedly hurt them. The team now will have to put it all together and start preparing for the tournaments in February.
