Ph. 385-6195 News Of Humane Society As part of their commitment to keep horse owners informed about possible health dangers for their animals, the Northern Illinois Hoofed Animal Humane society will present films and a discussion of VEE (Venezuelan Equine encephalo myelitis) at their regular meeting Thur sday, Feb. 10, 8 p.m., in the Council chambers of the Crystal Lake city hall, 121 N. Main street, Crystal Lake. As all horse owners remember, VEE is the equine sleeping sickness transmitted by mosquitos that brought the horse industry to a standstill in the Southwest. Dr. John B u c k l e r , f e d e r a l epidemiologist, who was sent by the federal government to study VEE in Texas and Mississippi, will show films of the recent VEE epidemic and alert horse owners to the danger signals of the disease. Prevention is the only cure for VEE and Dr. Buckler, along with most equine veterinarians in the area, is recommending that all horses be vaccinated. Horse owners should be in formed, and this point is greatly stressed by Dr. J.V. Johnson, McHenry county veterinarian and public health officer, who arranged for Dr. Buckler's talk. There will be a discussion period following Dr. Buckler's presentation, and horse owners will be free to ask questions about VEE. The Northern Illinois Hoofed Animal Humane society, the only humane society in the state devoted to horses and other hoofed animals, will also present a synopsis of their work during the past few months. "Spirit" Topic Of Lesson For Local Church Intuition and spiritual sense are not limited to a special few but are available to all, ac cording to the Bible Lesson- Sermon entitled "Spirit" at McHenry Christian Science services Sunday. Opening the Scriptural readings is this passage from Psalms: "0 Lord, how main- fold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches. Ttiou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth." The unlimited source of spiritual sense is also indicated in this citation to be read from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy "Spiritual sense, con tradicting the material senses, involves intuition, hope, faitn, understanding, fruition, reality.1' Services are conducted by Myrtle Ohman, First Reader, and Joy Dass, Second Reader, at Christian Science society, Lincoln road and Eastwood lane The service is at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome. $ivê piafi&lyltfend Sp-4 Walter J. The air is fresh and clean and it's hard to realize that pollution exists. All the world's problems seem far away. But for this young man there will be a tomorrow and a next tomorrow. Circum stances won't be the same. Perhaps John is a little more aware than most of us of the ills that beset this world -- for he is a theological stu dent. He is determined to make things better. And he is equipped with enthusiasm, understanding, a keen mind and a deep faith. How about you -- and your tomorrows? Certainly the best way to begin doing your part is to cover that short dis tance to church next Sunday. Mount Hope Church United Methodist 1015 W. Broadway Pistakee Highlands Rev. Willis H.
