A PAGE 2-PIAINDEALER-FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1972 Grandma Soz ••• MR AND MRS. GARY A. SCHMITT BRIDAL COl'PLE - St. Mary's Catholic church, McHenry, was the scene of a lovely winter wedding Saturday, Jan. 15, when Catherine Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Sanders of 5708 Liberty street, Richmond, became the bride of Gary A. Sch- mitt, son of Mrs. Frances Schmitt of 3509 W. John street, McHenry. Rev. Joseph Kulak officiated at the 2:30 double ring ceremony. The couple are both employed atCommonwealth Edison, Crystal Lake. They are now making their home at 3025 W. Lincoln road, McHenry. Money is bein' spent at a rate that it never wuz afore, an' encourages an attitude o' disregard fer things. It jist don't seem like a healthy at titude fer the younguns t' grow up wi\ "Deficit spendin'," ain't a goin't' git anybody anywhere, seems t' me, 'ceptin't' put us in debt, more an' more, each year Seems mighty odd, t' this ol' lady, t' figger on spendin' what we ain't got in our pocket. The thing bothers me the most, is the effect it's havin' on the young. Money comes easy, t' a lot o' 'em, these days. In days past, more young folks worked, soon 's they wuz old enough t' be hired, an' turned in a goodly part o' their earnin's t' help wi' their schoolin', clothin' an' whatever The big excuse, these days, is that they have so much homework, from school. I'll grant ye that they have plenty, but application to it, kin git it done. One thing, different from past eras, is the distraction which some youngsters insist on, the radio, 'r other means o' entertainment, durin' the study hours. Seems t' me that or dinary reasonin' tells ye that life in these times is a whole lot different than when we elders wuz young, an' had t' figger chores inter the schednlp 0€K WELCOME AFS STUDENT -- On Tuesday. Many o' us elders ha' watched "Progress", as It's called, realizin' that a waste o' time an' effort, emphasizin' the wrong things, causin' our resources t' be exhausted, putting emphasis on the material, is producin' a society that' strange t' the American way o' life. Seems t' be my thinkin', that we need a lot o' housecleanin' in government, renovatin' o' the entire system we're beset wi'. The warm blanket o' passive submission, t' the promiscuous perpetrations o' all kinds o' schemes, t' hoodwinKthe people, seems t' have enveloped 'em, an' they pay fer their lack o' interested participation, wi' higher taxes. Payin' fer all the indiscretions, an' down-right mismanagement o' the people's funds, is cause fer lack o' funds fer dedication, an' other things they cain't find money fer, these days. Seems t' this ol' lady, that they've tapped the well purty dry. It seems, also, that there must be some honest men, somewhere, who could pull us out o' the mire. Further in formation may be obtained from Mrs. Dan Olenick at 675- 2152. talented children, Pedtke demonstrates each time he takes the podium his effective innovations with an all male chorus. Numerous appearance, coupled with many months of intensive vocal training, have given these student singers from Notre Dame the skill and polish necessary to perform the operatic, classical, popular and humorous numbers which will be included in the concert at Marian Central on Feb. 19. Tickets for the 8 p.m. concert may be purchased in several business firms in the county. In a recent program spon sored by the McHenry County Homemakers Extension association, Ray Tetzlaf, geneologist, of Delavan, Wis., gave suggestions of where and how to begin looking. "First, you cannot go by tradition!" Why? Because too often tradition is an inflated story. He ought to know. He has been tracing his family thirty years, searching out clues across the United States. People of European descent will find German and French records inaccurate. These people were concerned with royalty and many times would commit fraud to claim royal blood. England, however, is very accurate. It was early state law to maintain clear and correct birth records. Descendants of United States military service men can ob tain information about an cestors by writing the General Services administration. When asked where to begin, Mr. Tetzlaf said, "Your relatives! Every relative you know - start asking them questions about where their relatives came from, where they are buried, what they did, who they married, where they were married, how many children they 1 had, etc. Relatives are a wealth of in formation." Also emphasized, beginners should have patience and perseverance. Family tree tracing involves volumes of letter writing, reading, in vestigating and deciphering. The true genealogist is like a detective -- collecting only accurate information. What else has Mr. Tetzlaf learned about his family? His ancestors included one of the owners of Long Island, a for mer Rhode Island governor, a person who grew a third set of teeth, a relative buried near the grave of President Garfield's assassinator in Freeport, 111., and a famous actress. Other points to know -- adoption records are closed for 100 years; it is extremely difficult to trace Indian heritage since most tribes did not have a written language. Did one of your ancestors come to the New World on the Mayflower? If so, you could have 230,000 cousins! Mrs. Dorothy McEachren, president of the McHenry County Historical society added that to assist county residents in family tree tracing, they are invited to use the society records. However, the combination of factors that bring on this condition can, for the most part , be avoided by susceptible people. The emotions you hide are more important in causing ulcers than those you ex press. Even talking about your grievance to someone helps. Resentment, the feel ing of being wronged or un appreciated and the feeling of insecurity are by far the worst rousers of your stom ach. You can dodge the feel ings which let an ulcer get started by steering clear of si tuations that will cause the feelings.
