Women Of -- The Moose The last meeting of McHenry Chapter 1348 opened with S-R Eleanor Haerle presiding. There were twenty-five members present. After the fourfold, enrollment was held for Christine Palmer, sponsored by Evelyn Sandell. Protem was Alice Kowall. We received a thank you note from Moosehaven thanking us for the money we sent for wheel chairs. Our chapter is invited to the Elkhorn chapter's Green Cap night Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. at their Moose home. Mid-winter conference will be held at Belvidere March 5. This year our chapter has the endowment fund march. All officers, chairmen and escorts are encouraged to go. Formals are a must. All other members are also invited. Our next meeting is Green Cap night in honor of Eileen Hodgson. Formals are also to be worn for this meeting. Our chapter was draped in honor of Anna Arreger and Louise Wilmoth. Our Birthday girls were Florence McCormick, Monique Kopp, Alice Kowall and Bertha English. The special award was won by Myrna Talley and the at tendance* award would have been won by Jean Claus had she been present. On Feb. 29 there will be a joint meeting of the LOOM and the WOTM. He weighed 9 lbs., 8 ozs., at birth. Mrs. Miller is the former Jackie Crosier. Maternal grandparents are Mrs. Ronnie Weld of McHenry and Thomas Crosier of Cicero. Auxiliary Aids Firemen At Wonder Lake The Wonder Lake Volunteer Firemen's auxiliary will hold its meeting Feb. 15 at the east firehouse at 8 p.m. At the January meeting it was decided to present to the Fire department money for two shortwave radios. The Women's auxiliary assists firemen and the Rescue squad. Women interested in becoming members are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. NEW MAP CHANGES Signing changes now being made on various routes throughout the state will be included on the 1972 Illinois highway map, available now, according to Transportation Secretary William F. The word, "Gaertner," means "gardener" and, appropriately, this goulash includes some of the gardener's produce -- onions, carrots and turnips. Gaertner Style Goulash yA cup corn oil 1 pound stewing beef, cut in 1-inch cubes 2 medium onions, diced 2 beef bouillon cubes 2 cups boiling water 1 teaspoon sugar % teaspoon salt /2 teaspoon crushed thyme leaves '/8 teaspoon pepper 1 bay leaf 1 cup pared diced turnip 1 large carrot, pared, cut in strips y2 cup white wine 2 tablespoons corn starch 2 tablespoons water Heat corn oil in large skillet. Add beef and onions. Cook over medium heat, browning beef on all sides. Dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water and pour over meat mixture. Add sugar, salt, thyme, pepper and bay leaf. Cover and simmer 35 minutes. Add turnip and carrot and simmer, covered, 35 minutes or until meat is tender. Pour in wine. Mix corn starch and water and gradually stir into goulash. Bring to a boil and boil 1 minute, stirring constantly. Makes 4 servings.
