/I Alpha Theta Members Give Feb. 12 Program The Alpha Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma society entertained at the Timbers restaurant, Woodstock. Sixty- five members were present for the Feb. 12 luncheon. After a social hour a program offered by six members on responsibilities of women, entitled "Something on the Inside", made the listener evaluate the place of women in the world and the tremendous influence they have in this country. Shay, director of McHenry County Civil Defense, has successfully completed the second phase of the Civil Defense Career Development program for local directors, held at the Office of Civil Defense Staff college in Battle Creek, Mich. The Career Development program, a course consisting of four phases of two weeks each, is designed to enable officials in states, cities and towns to begin training for careers in Civil Defense in keeping with the development of Civil Defense as a profession. This course enables those officials with experience and training to broaden their knowledge of public administration, public relations and advanced management in Civil Defense. The participants in this class were forty carefully selected , Civil Defense coordinators from throughout the United States who had successfully completed Phase I of the program Phase II focuses on the Civil Defense coordinator's role as a public official who must work within the framework of the local government and the en vironment of his community. The areas covered were the analysis of governmental structure, public ad ministration, personnel m a n a g e m e n t , p r o g r a m m a n a g e m e n t , b u d g e t i n g , records management and social systems and actions.
