Representatives Support County College Referendum Illinois State Representatives Thomas Hanahan and George Lindberg reviewed the details of the forthcoming referendum for McHenry County college with College President James Davis and Vice-President John Garrett Friday, Feb. 18. After the meeting, Mr. Lindberg stated, "I am im­ pressed by the involvement of citizens throughout the entire county in working with the college administration to establish the basis for this referendum, and the college has my full support on Feb. 26." Mr. Hanahan also indicated his support of the college, saying, "I know a community college is a valuable asset to the people of McHenry county, and I have been a consistent supporter of junior college legislation from the very beginning." As advocates of higher education at the community level, both representatives felt that it would be a tragedy for McHenry county to lose its college. "MEANWHILE BACK AT KU THE COURTHOUSE" Unique Theatre •sTo Be Presented Locally March 5 The McHenry chapter of International Thespians, Troope 382, will present "Tandem", a unique evening of theatre with playwright Nor­ man Dietz and his wife, Sandra, March 5 in th§ McHenry high school West campus auditorium. The program of original short plays for two players will begin at 7:30 p.m., "We call it 'a playcycle-built- for-two'," says Mr. Dietz. The main feature of the evening will be Mr. Dietz' unusual play "Deus Ex Machinist", a fable, the author says "about wanting to be gentle in a violent world." The New York Times called this two-character work "a powerful piece." "It's a cool, stylized pas de deux in masks set against an electronic background of recorded dialogue and city sounds," says Mr. Dietz. "It's exciting to play and different, I think, from anything most people have ever seen in a theatre." For ten years now Norman Dietz and his wife, Sandra, have spent a large part of each year touring coast-to-coast playing two-character per­ formances of this much- traveled playwright's unique material. New pieces join the old ones in their repertory each year as Norman finished writing them. The couple met a dozen years ago in Lancaster, Pa., where Norman then worked for a local television station and Sandra for an advertising agency. They left for New York City the day after they were married in 1960. Over the years they have made numerous appearances on radio and television shows across the country. During the summer of 1970 they played for the first time in Madison Square Garden before a con­ vention audience of 15,000. The Dietzes are presently on a four-month coast-to-coast tour. The Standard Red Cross first aid course was also taught in conjunction with the class. Shay said that another Medical Self-Help course will begin Monday Feb. 28, at the Cary Fire department building. Each class will be from 8 to 10 p.m. and will continue for eight weeks. No advance registration is necessary. There is no charge.
