VACATIONERS HOME After a two week vacation we find the Leonard Ackermans home. The first week and a half Leonard and Phyllis left for the sunny south to take a trip to the Busch Gardens, which they say were beautiful, and to many other places on both sides of the state. While in Florida they visited with Len's sister and husband, the Allen Wagners, and with other friends in the Miami area. On the trip home via South Carolina they visited with Mrs. Mary Sonnemaker and her family, of Santee. Onward home and picked up the children and mushed their way to the northland to visit Len's dad, Charles Ackerman. They were snowed in one day. Lots of snow much to the delight of snowmobilers. CHURCH NEWS Bowling seems to be the popular activity of our young people at the present time since the snow is fast dwindling away. Last Sunday Ben Jacobs took his Sunday School class for an afternoon of bowling and those attending were Bill Baker, David Christopher, Ben Jacobs, Jr., Tom Kane, Lee Walkington and Dorothy Winters. An apology to the U.M.Y.F. young folks for not reporting their bowling party the previous week but it was a case of not making a note of it for the time when the news was to be written. It sounds like everyone had a good time and they thoroughly enjoyed the supper served to them by Art and Mary Baker in their home. Those who still had ambition (or no homework waiting) then continued on to Spring Grove to join other young folks in the parish for a Valentine party. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER Just a reminder that World Day of Prayer sponsored by Church Women United will be held in the Ringwood Methodist church on Friday, March 3, at 9:30 (a nursery will be available) and also Friday evening, same date, at St. Paul's Episcopal church, McHenry, at 8 p.m. We hope many of the ladies in our community will be able to join us at one of these services. " Veterans Hold Slave Day For Future Activities During the weekend of March 4 and 5, the McHenry County college Veterans' organization will hold a Slave day to raise funds for the purpose of con­ tinuing their community action activities. Local businessmen are asked to hire veterans for such odd jobs as inventory, painting, or just cleaning out the back room. Since the beginning of the fall 1971 semester, the MCC Vets' Greg Borter Ritualist For Lambda Chi Alpha Greg Borter, 2614 Indian trail, McHenry, has been elected ritualist of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity at DePauw university. Greg is a junior at the private university in Greencastle, Ind., and is majoring in history. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Borter, of McHenry and he is a graduate of McHenry high school. Announcement of the election was made this week by the fraternity, which has had a national chapter on the DePauw campus since 1916. Gary says, "You might be asking yourself who and what is the MCC Veterans' organization? Well, we are just a club composed of veterans who are taking advantage of their benefits to obtain a college education. We feel our club is very active at MCC and that we have had much success in the past with various ac­ tivities." A resident of Cary, Gary served as an SP-5 U.S. Army medic in Germany. In his third semester at MCC, Gary is also a representative to Student Government. First Vice-President Thomas Trendler of Johnsburg served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army Signal corps and was a microwave radio team chief. He is a business administration major and plans to study law. Second Vice-President Douglas G. Vodnansky of Crystal Lake served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam as an aircraft electronic mechanic. He will graduate from MCC this June with an Associate in Science degree for Business. Secretary Tom Majercik of Wonder Lake served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Japan and Vietnam. His major is law enforcement, which he will continue to study when he transfers to Northern Illinois university. Treasurer William D. Wozniak of McHenry was an E- 5 Aviation Machinist's Mate (Jets) and spent three years with the U.S. Navy.
