When Wayne (Wil Ander­ son) f inds himself without ranch hands to drive several thousand head of cat t le to market (his hands have gone on a gold hunt) , he collects a dozen school boys to help him do the job. Picture a group of untrain­ ed school boys trying to do a ranch hand's work, plus the fact that they are of mixed races, and i t adds up to a lot of confusion, laughs and patience on Wayne's part . But, you' l l notice that Wayne exhibits the father role (his own sons are al l dead). Mark Rydeli directs the f i l m a s i t i s s e e n t h r o u g h the eyes of boys, and, while they are expected to do the work of adult ranch hands, they come a bit short when sampling the Duke's l iquor not to mention their encoun­ ter with a group of saloon women.
