- Wonder Lake Mary Jean Huff 653-9167 John Black Family New Residents A hearty welcome to Wonder Lake to the Black family who recently moved into the house on top of the hill at 3316 East wood Drive. John Black, his wife, Sandy, and children, John, 9, a fourth grader and Tracey, 7, a first grader, come to Wonder Lake from Belleville, 111., which is 15 miles east of St. Louis. Mr. Black is a claims-coordinator with an insurance company in Long Grove. Other occupants of the house are a poodle called Yo-Yo and a hamster named Tommy. A favorite hobby of the Black family is camping and they are looking forward to exploring some of the beautiful campsites in the Wisconsin area. SODALITY MEETS There will be a general sodality meeting at Christ the King church on Thursday, March 2, at 8:30p.m. The ladies will work on decorations for the sodality sponsored Red Garter dance which will be held on Saturday, March 4, in the church hall. A banjo band will provide an evening of exciting music for dancing or just listening and enjoying from 9 to 12:30. YOUNG THESPIANS Some of Wonder Lake's younger thespians, the eighth grade class of Harrison school, will present an evening of entertainment on Thursday, March 2. Two plays will be performed, "Feud at Squirrel Hollow" and "Another Man's Family". Curtain time is 8 p.m. WORLD DAY OF PRAYER A World Day of Prayer will take place at Ringwood Methodist church on Friday, March 3. Coffee will be served at 9:30 a.m. with prayer ser- vir#»R conducted by Pastor Olson of Nativity Lutheran church, Wonder Lake, at 10 a.m. Mrs. Mary Idstein of Johnsburg will be soloist and Mrs. Harrison, organist. Churches in the Wonder Lake, Ringwood and McHenry area are participating and all members are encouraged to attend. A second service for those who are unable to par ticipate in the morning services will be held at 8 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal church, McHenry. Co-chairmen of the Day of Prayer are Mrs. Christopher and Mrs. Cristy. CONDOLENCES Our condolences to the Larry Goulet family of Oakwood Shores. Larry's aunt, who added much brightness to the Goulet home on many a holiday gathering, passed away recently in Chicago. WEEKEND RETREAT Now is the time for all ladies of Christ the King church in terested in a weekend retreat to call Dolores Wines for reser vations at 653-3931. If you've ever read Anne Morrow Lind bergh's "A Gift From the Sea", you may remember how she emphasizes the real need all of us have to get away from the stress and strain of our everyday lives, to be alone and to sort out the pathways of our lives. Three weeks on a deserted island may be ideal for this type of thing, but a weekend at Bishop Lane Retreat House is much more practical. And don't forget, someone else will be cooking and serving your meals and doing the dishes and there will be time for a lazy afternoon nap or a leisurely stroll through the woods. I kid you not - 'tis a slice of heaven! SEVENTH BIRTHDAY Our boy, Dan, has it all figured out. By the time his classmates and teacher give him the customary "spankings" for his seventh birthday tomorrow, March 2, it will add up to 140 whops. Won't be surprised if he stuffs a pillow in his drawers before he leaves the house tomorrow morning. Here & There In BUSINESS Spectacular Gains Reported By Head Of Bank ARNOLD J. RAUEN In its 1971 annual report issued this week, the Bank for Savings and Loan Associations, 39 S. La Salle, Chicago, posted a net increase in total assets of 276 percent over the twelve months, it was announced by Arnold J. Rauen, president. Mr. Rauen is well known in local financial and civic circles, and currently resides at 2721 Regner Road, Pistakee Bay, McHenry. "Following passage of federal legislation qualifying savings and loan association's deposits in our bank as liquidity, which occurred late in 1970, the confidence in our specialized bank was restored," Rauen stated. "Hence, we were able to grow _in every respect at a rather spectacular rate." "Of special interest to the approximately 200 savings and loan associations who con stitute our shareholders, net income increased an enormous 608 percent," Rauen continued. "Earnings, after taxes, $358,015 for the year, against $50,537 after taxes recorded in the previous twelve months. This comes to $2.30 per share compared with 1970's total of $.33 share." A highly specialized bank, the Bank for Savings and Loan Associations was organized in 1966 to provide banking ser vices especially geared to the needs of savings institutions. Originally limiting its operations to the Illinois area, it currently serves associations throughout the country as a full-service, state chartered bank.
