Your Country Companies, Agent country ur nil Richmond, Ph. 678 6651 LM fT 338-2000 By Fred Kusch For the first time since basketball records have been recorded at MCHS back in 1924 the Warriors won their first IHSA Regional Tournament in basketball last Friday night. The victory had to be the highlight of the season so far for the Warriors. Due to in juries to key players at critical points in the season the Warriors had not been able to live up to the pre-season prognostications. Therefore going into the tourney one might say the Warriors felt that they did not live up to their own personal expectations. Going into the tourney the Warriors were probably as healthy as they have ever been this season. Ready to prove to themselves and their fans that they weren't dead yet they put together two great per formances and as a result won the tournament. To get to the finals the Warriors had to get by their first round opponents on Wednesday night. The op ponent was arch rival Wood stock a team the Warriors had already beaten twice in regular season play. Woodstock came out a fired up underdog, but Don Prazak set the stage for the evening as he scored the first 6 points of the ball game as the hot shooting Warriors took the lead and never relinquished it The game got to be close only once when in the fourth quarter the Streaks came within 7 points and appeared to be closing in on the Warrior lead but the Orange and Black weren't to be denied as they picked up the slack and went on to win 66-55. The Warrior victory was a team effort all the way as they complimented each other with a fine balanced offensive attack having four men score in double figures. The hot shooting Warriors scorched the nets hitting on 30- 51 shots for 59 percent. The Warriors also took advantage of the Streaks charity as they hit on 5 of 6 free throws. The Warrior victory over the Blue Streaks set the stage for the championship game Friday night. In what had to be one of the best played, most thrilling games ever played by a McHenry basketball team, the Warriors wrote a new page of athletic history as they nipped the Antioch Sequoits 63-61, winning the first regional tourney in the school's history. The outcome of the game was doubtful as the lead changed hands no less than 12 times. Both teams played great basketball and it was indeed a shame that anyone had to lose A great team effort was the story of the Warrior victory as great defense caused 13 Sequoit turnovers and a balanced of fense resulted in 4 Warriors in double figures. The Warriors again blazed as they melted the nets hitting on 26 of 48 shots for a redhot 54 percent. The Charity Stripe was an im portant aspect of the ball game since the Sequoits connected on the same number of field goals as the warriors' 26. The Warriors hit on 11-15 from the free throw line while the Sequoits hit on only 9 of 20. Therein was the outcome of the game. No single player can be mentioned over any other in the Warrior victory as they all contributed tremendously. Prazak scoring 21 points and hauling down 15 rebounds, Hoffman scoring 10 points and playing a fine floor game, Big Bentz scoring 10 points and pulling down big rebounds, Jim Hurckes' great defensive play on Meiure and his fine floor play, Ron Miller hitting for 16 big points and fine all around play, Ludwig coming off the bench hitting a key bucket and playing fine defense on Meiure, Gary Fenner also coming off the bench replacing Bentz who was in foul trouble to play good defense and rebound, and finally Randy Neiss who bounced back from his injury to play in the tourney, came off the bench to team with Hoff man to hold Andrews to only three shots. It was indeed a great team effort. How sweet victory is! The victory enables the Warriors to advance to the IHSA Sectional Tournament at Waukegan. There on Wed nesday the Warriors will face Carmel High School in the semi-final round of the Sec tional Game time is 7:30 in the evening. A victory over Carmel will put the Warriors in the. Championship Sectional game against the winner of the Libertyville-North Chicago contest. The Warriors need your support Wednesday. Drive over to Waukegan and cheer them on to victory. This is the worst ship disaster in the U.S., but the world record seems to be held by the Kegya, which exploded in the China Sea in 1948, with a loss of over 6,000 lives. Religious controversies are usually multiplied by division. For Tournament Basketball fans planning to attend the sectional game tonight between McHenry and Carmel, here are some informational items and directions to the gymnasium. The Waukegan East Campus gymnasium is located on Jackson street between Washington street and Glen Rock avenue.
