Dogs serve man in a far wider range of services and climatic conditions than any other animal, far surpassing the cow, horse, or donkey. Dogs are found in all parts of the world except Madagascar, and all dogs, from tiny Chihuaha to the greatest Great Dane, all have exactly the same number of bones in their bodies. HERBICIDE USE Careful selection and use of herbicides combined with timely cultivation add up to effective control of most annual weeds in corn. Derreld Mulvaney, University of Illinois Extension agronomist, says you can apply herbicides either before, during or after planting. But whenever you apply a herbicide, careful selection and use are im portant. Preplant herbicide ap plications are gaining popularity as more farmers attempt to get many of their essential farming operations out of the way before the busy planting season begins. He lists these herbicides for preplant treatment: -AAtrex. You can apply AAtrex within two weeks before planting, but as a general rule, the closer to planting, the better. Mixing AAtrex with liquid fertilizer is popular in some areas. It's not necessary to in corporate AAtrex into the soil. But if the weather is dry, getting the material into more moist soil may aid absorption by weed seedlings. Relatively shallow incorporation is suggested, however, to avoid excessive chemical. -Sutan. You can apply Sutan either alone or combined with atrazine to improve control of grass weeds and reduce atrazine residue. Application of this material with liquid fer tilizer is also popular, but be sure applications are accurate and uniform to avoid plant injury. You can apply Sutan or Sutan-atrazine in combination within two weeks before planting. Incorporate im mediately. -Lasso. You can also apply I^asso preplant either alone or combined with atrazine. If you're trying to control panicum, surface application of ^e materials is preferred. But for nutsedge control in corporation is usually best, especially if rainfall is light. You may apply Lasso within seven days before planting. Adjust rates according to soils and weeds you want to control. Some of these same her bicides and others may be applied at planting time. Post- emergence treatments provide another alternative or ad ditional help in controlling weed problems. TURN ONS TELL YOUR \NIFE THAT DEAFNESS IS A Sl&M OP OLP you TELL MER,POC X KNOW e>tfTTER.
