"Clare Haerle" Tax Multipliers Will Reflect Farm Values Final multipliers to equalize real estate tax assessments in township counties will be ad­ justed to reflect new in­ formation about farm land values, Director Robert J. Lenhausen of the Illinois Department of Local Govern­ ment Affairs said this week. The department, which is charged by law with the responsibility of equalizing assessments of real and per­ sonal property among Illinois counties, has just completed» studies of farm land sales for 1969 and 1970. "Since this is the quadrennial assessment year for township counties in Illinois," Lenhausen said, "this survey is of great importance." The tentative multipliers previously certified by the department to counties with township form of government were based on studies involving sales occurring in 1966,1967 and 1968, he said. The survey indicated that average farmland values in Illinois, except in some nor­ thern counties, have declined in recent years, Lenhausen said. Lenhausen emphasized these equalization factors were for the assessment year of 1971 for local taxes payable in 1972. He further indicated that similar information was brought to the attention of the department with reference to certifications made in 1970 for counties having the com­ mission form of government, and was utilized in determining the final factors for those counties.
