There were several im portant matters discussed at the meeting. Many of the women are looking forward to the dinner and play at the McHenry Country Club, Friday, March 10 Preparations have already begun for the salad luncheon and card party The luncheon will be held Wednesday, April 12, in St. Patrick s church hall Serving will start at 11:30 a.m. On Thursday, May 25. the Women's Club will travel by bus to the "Home Arts Guild" in Chicago. There will be ample time to tour the loop also After the business was taken care of, everyone enjoyed coffee and dessert All women who live in Lakeland Park are invited to attend the Lakeland Park Women's club The meetings are on the first Thursday of the month at 12:30 p.m. in the Lakeland Park community house If you are new in the community, this would be a good way to become acquainted with your neighbors and also spend a very pleasant af­ ternoon GIRL SCOUT COOKIES The girls of Girl Scout Troop 320 are busy taking orders for cookies. Many people look forward each year to buying and eating those delicious Girl Scout cookies Saturday, March li, is the last day of the cookie sales. This year the girls will be taking orders for a new family size box. The bigger and better box has doubled in size in several of the five varieties. Proceeds from the cookie sale will be used by Troop 320 and other local troops to enhance their own scouting activities and by the council to purchase equipment and develop camping properties that will be used by the girls. SCOUT-O-RAMA Another scouting happening to look forward to is the Boy Scouts of America Scout- ORama. Both the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts are selling tickets to this event which will take place Saturday, March 18, at Crystal Lake high school from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. At Scout-O-Rama there are many displays which show the activities of scouting. These are put together and shown by the young men in Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts. These displays are very interesting and you will not be disappointed. The proceeds from the sale of tickets are used by local troops for equipment and other scouting needs and by the council to help keep scouting going for all boys to enjoy. Residents in the entire Lake region of Algonquin, Cary, Crystal Lake, Fox River Grove, Huntley, Island Lake, Lake-in-the-Hills, Lakemoor, Lakewood, McHenry, Oakwood Hills, Ridgefield, Wonder Lake, Woodstock and surrounding unincorporated areas are welcome to participate in the program as announced in the schedule. Activities available for youth include bowling instruction and leagues, grade school skills and fun, golf for teens, junior high dances, swimming instruction and judo for teens. Women's program starting in March includes beginning yoga and continuing yoga. Participation opportunities for men include karate and volleyball. There will be golf for men and women. There are also opportunities for boys to Join Y-Indian or Y- Warriors, for girls to join Y- Indian Princess and for men to join the Y's Men's club. Regular Family Swims are available in Elgin and Des Plaines. The school's purpose is to get greater involvement from lay workers in fulfilling the mission of the church. the Christian message, training others to share their experience with Christ, alerting the church to the mission of evangelism, and enlisting members in witness training and in­ volvement. First Baptist church will be participating in this program March 12 through 16. Training sessions will begin Sunday, 6:30-8:30 p.m., continuing each evening, Monday through Thursday, 7-9 p.m. Each session will involve prayer, Bible study, creative activities, and practical sharing ac­ tivities. All church members, friends and interested persons in the community are invited to participate. The fee will cover the cost of materials only. Registration must be in by March 10. Those interested may register at the church office or by telephone. This lay Evangelism school is one of the highlights of the year for the First Baptist church. The school presents an ex­ cellent opportunity for chur­ ches to work together in sharing their Christian faith in the community. Local Church Conducts Lay Evangelism School For several weeks the First Baptist church of McHenry has been preparing to conduct a lay Evangelism school for lay members and other interested persons from local churches. The preparations for the school are the result of the efforts of special leaders of evangelism and lay workers who first shared the materials used for lay Evangelism schools. The emphasis for the school is training lay people how to share their Christian faith in today's world. The materials used are basic, Bible centered, and adaptable. Leaders in­ volved in this training will provide the best possible guidelines for spiritual growth and development in sharing the Christian message.
