Music will be furnished by the high school jazz band Receipts will be used to replenish the class treasury Approximately 1,000 people visited the Buss Page Motor Sales garage on Wednesday to see the new Ford V-8 automobile which is on display in the large showroom A little red roadster which stood outside the garage attracted almost as much attention as did the new car within. It is one of the first cars ever made b,y the Ford company. This car is a 1907 model S and is now in possession of Fred Huemann Miss Ix>retta Steffes is en­ joying a vacation from her duties at the local telephone exchange The culmination of a country wide insurance contest was held in the directors' room of the Farm Bureau. Prizes were awarded by H J Blackburn, director of insurance service. Among those to receive the prizes were Kenneth Cristy of Ringwood and Ray Page of MeHenry Owing to present conditions we find it necessary to operate this store on a cash basis in order to meet all competition in quality and price This plan will go into effect on May 1, Regner's Grocery and market. The M H Detrick farm has been rented this year by Joe Greener, one of this sections most progressive farmers. Mr and Mrs. Peter Nelson, parents of Mrs. Greener are carrying on the farm for him and live in the big brick house on the farm. Jesse Darnell is also employed on the farm and lives in the upper flat of the large house. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 10, 1947) Two young MeHenry women are putting in a great number of overtime hours this week in order to serve the public in this area with emergency telephone service during the strike. They are Miss Rovena Marshall, chief operator, and Miss Lillian Stilling, assistant, who are aided by a supervisor sent here and to all other exchanges to help in handling calls. The local office is not affected by the operators strike and will remain open as usual for the transaction of business. Burglars last week escaped with loot valued at about $1,000 when they broke into the H E. Buch and son plumbing and appliance store on Riverside Drive. The loot included six radios, one combination radio and record player, four vacuum cleaners, six electric shavers, five electric irons, several automobile fans and $10 in cash A day long to be remembered was enjoyed by Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Harrison April 5, when they held open house to their friends in honor of their golden wedding anniversary. George Watson and Art Mercier of W.B.B M., Chicago, were dinner guests of Mrs. Rose Mueller on Saturday evening As friends of Emil C Simon, Jr., the three young men enjoyed the evening en­ tertaining with music and songs. Joseph J Freund. who retired this spring as highway commissioner of MeHenry township after having held that post very successfully for fifteen years, was honored by members of the Johnsburg community club Mr Freund was presented with a rocking chair by his friends and club members. TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of April 12, 1962) Marilyn Buckmaster became ill and lost consciousness when she was voting in the polling place located at Lakemoor grocery. The Johnsburg rescue squad was called and ad ministered oxygen until the ambulance arrived to take her to a Crystal Lake family physician Mr and Mrs. Joseph English of Shalimar were surprised at a party held in honor of their twenty-fifth wedding an­ niversary held Saturday evening, the actual wedding was April 11. Leola Freund of Richmond road was winner of a power lawn mower given away by Nye Drugs. Robert Newkirk spent ten days recently on a plane trip to Bristol and London, England, on business, while there he also visited friends in London who showed him the sights of the city. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Meyer, Mr. and Mrs. George P. Freund attended a concert in Oak Park Saturday evening in which Elmer Meyer, a former local resident and brother of Mrs. Freund and Fred Meyer, took part. New-style seven figure telephone numbers will become a 100 percent reality in MeHenry Sunday, April 29, announced by Bob Zahn, local Illinois Bell manager. Over 56,000 families were aided. They were also given recovery assistance including repairing and rebuilding homes. Collected 2,775,200 donations of blood for treatment of the ill and injured Issued over a million cer­ tificates in first aid, 2,500,000 in water safety, and 242,000 in home nursing. Assisted in the relief of human suffering world-wide whether suffering was caused by war or disaster. In com­ munities, provided 338,000 volunteers who served in 500 federal hospitals, 2,000 military installations, and over 20,000 community and state hospitals.
