COMMENTS 'The role and purpose of a comprehensive community college is to serve two major groups -- the high school graduate and the adult seeking educational improvement. Based on my personal ex perience not only as a student but also as a parent dealing with the problems of educating three of my daughters at the college level, I firmly believe that our County college is vitally necessary in the educational process. I feel that the problems of steeply rising costs and limited capacities in the state and private univer sities and colleges will become much more severe. The County college definitely must provide educational opportunities for graduates unable to enter other colleges." ROBERT J. WEIDNER Robert J. COMMENTS "A comprehensive Junior college should offer courses that satisfy the needs of adults as well as young people for continuing education beyond high school. It should have courses at convenient times fa- students who are employed, and include areas of instruction that are necessary and ap pealing to students to meet their particular needs. The new campus must explore and in stitute new programs® of vocational and technical education and broaden the whole educational program to meet the needs of all the people in the county." COMMENTS "I have just completed a professional building of several thousand square feet and I feel that the experience has taught me many things that would be applicable to the building of the new McHenry County Junior college. My prime concern as a 1 potential trustee is that the college building be constructed as economically as possible, gaining the most function for the tax dollar. I am very aware of the tax dollar, being a tax payer of the county. I am in terested in maintaining a balanced educational program for the students, present and future. I feel this can be done effectively and economically still respecting the prevailing tax rate. Maintenance and operation of an educational facility is the major long term cost corfronting the district". ROBERT J. VISIN Robert J. Visin, vice- president and general manager RICHARD H.KROPP Kropp earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Washington and Jefferson college and is presently vice- president of Bryan-Longhway Insurance agency in Crystal Lake. His civic affiliations include membership in the Rotary club, Masonic lodge and Methodist church as well as president cf the Crystal Lake Chamber cf Commerce. Kropp has been serving with the citizens advisory council of the college on the job placement and student achievement committees. MAJOR PROBLEMS 'The college can and should provide a service to the student and the community. We spend thousands of dollars to educate our children in the first twelve years of school, we provide one of the finest park systems in the state and then we let them get away because there are no jobs for them here." IDEAS TO MEET THEM "Industry can provide these jobs. The college can provide the training and curriculum to assist the students in finding jobs in McHenry county. I believe that as a businessman here in the locality, I have an CARL A. KRIEGEL Carl A. Kriegel of 330 Poplar THOMAS C.ZANCK Thomas C. ROBERT J. WEIDNER having served on citizen ad visory councils of Harvard high school and the McHenry County college, finance and site selection committees. MAJOR PROBLEMS "1 - Satisfactory completion cf Phase One of the building program; 2 - Inadequate vocational-technical teaching facilities. 3 - Low student enrollment. IDEAS FOR MEETING THEM "Use a common sense ap proach to the physical needs of the school, such as adequate but low cost structures and a fully equipped mechanical and electronics department, among others. If the building and equipment needs are met, enrollment will increase automatically." While a college student, he assisted the administration of the college in an alumni fun ding program. Zanck is a member of the Woodstock . Knights of Columbus and the Woodstock Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. MAJOR PROBLEMS "We must effectively and economically construct quality buildings to house the college. I prefer that these buildings be more functional than aesthetically pleasing; however, a combination of those two qualities would be welcomed." IDEAS FOR MEETING THEM "Review the plans of a qualified architect as soon as possible and commence con struction as soon as the financing permits." WALTER J.TURNER Noresponse to questionnaire.
