Konitzer, instructor of Chemistry at McHenry County college, will speak before the fifteenth annual Chicago Area Chemistry Teachers con ference Sunday, April 15. Konitzer will present the views of the community junior college on the subject, "Chemistry For All," at a luncheon and panel discussion regarding the directions chemistry education should take for the purpose of providing a well-informed citizenry. According to Konitzer, the study of chemistry should provide students with the knowledge they need to make intelligentdecisions on subjects involving chemistry as it af fects their lives. He says, "As we look around us, we become aware of the large part that chemical processes play in our daily activities. If we are to consider pollution problems, the establishment of a chemical industry, or the advantages of a new insecticide or fertilizer, we need to know and be able to understand the facts involved. Only then can we make rational, objective, and unemotional contributions to society." Other speakers at the con ference include Dr. Anna J. Harrison, professor of Chemistry at Mt. Holyole college and chairman of the American Chemical Society Division of Chemical Education, who will present the views of the four-year schools; Dr. Herman J. Bloch, associate director of Research for Universal Oil Products, who will present the views of chemical industries; and Dr. Donald Ring, Science and Mathematics coordinator for Mt. Prospect high school, who will present the viewpoint of the high school chemistry in structor.
