0 PRESENT SPECIAL PROGRAM ~ A combination of excellent music and authentically detailed period costumes contribute to a night of entertainment with the Chicago Masquers doing a 17th century Gilbert and Sullivan entitled "Cupid and Death", sponsored by the Woodstock Fine Arts association Sunday, April 30, at 7:30in the Woodstock Opera House. The Woodstock Fine Arts association will present one of its special programs Sunday evening, April 30, at 7:30 in the Opera House. The Chicago Masquers will be in Woodstock that evening-to present "Cupid and Death", a 17th century Gilbert and Sullivan. "Cupid and Death" is full length, courtly entertainment written by James Shirley, Matthew Locke and Christopher Gibbons in 1653. First produced after the public performances of masques were banned, it is the soti7 of how CUpid and Death accidentally land up at the same inn for the night and someone witches their arrows. The resultant situation (young couples dying and old people suddenly making love) turns out to be an intolerable disturbance in the Universe and must be settled. A masque is a 16th and 17th century stage production designed for the entertainment d nobility and usually con sisting of poetry, instrumental and vocal music, dancing and eating. Included in the Chicago Masquers Woodstock presentation will be eighteen people, among them five in strumentalists, four vocalists and six dancers. The in struments will be a string quartet and harpsichord. The troupe of eighteen will perform on stage many dances done in England during the reign of James I in 1603-1625, along with many funny and beautiful songs and whatever else may have been done at the production's first performance 300 years ago. While there are no reserved seats for the Woodstock Opera House performance, tickets may be reserved by calling Mrs. Anthony Kramer or Mrs. Murray Johnson, or by writing Mrs. John Cowlin, Box 188, Crystal Lake. This special program is being made available by the Woodstock Fine Arts association in cooperation with the Illinois Arts council POET'S CORNER WEEKLY RECIPE DAUGHTER Young womanhood beckons to you dear, The Summer cf your life is near. At fairies playing on a star, Or candy canes placed near and far? Do the chocolate soldiers make you smile, my son? Is your happy little dream world fun? Are you smiling at a heavenly rose? A century-old dream of con necting Italy and Sicily may be come reality within a decade. The Italian government is pushing a program to build the world's longest suspension bridge across the Strait of Messina. Expected to take five to eight years to com plete, the bridge would be about 9,000 feet long. Plans call for sus pending che bridge from four massive towers, each 100 to 650 feet taller than the 1,250-foot Empire State Building.
