TEN YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 10, 1962) A Pistakee Highlands couple returning home from a wedding in Lombard were killed early Sunday morning, May 6, in a tragic two car crash on U.S. highway 12. The accident claimed the lives of Albert F. Gilbert and his wife, Edna, both 71 years old. A Spring Grove pilot, Phillip A. Damians, 46, and his passenger, William Stevens, 38, of Wheeling, were injured late Sunday afternoon when their two passenger plane hit a high line wire as it approached the landing strip at Hebron airport. The Ladies Aid of Zion Evangelical Lutheran church will have a salad bar luncheon and fashion show in the social hall of the church May 16. It was announced this week by R.D. Swans on, Richmond Commercial manager of General Telephone Company of Illinois, that installation of the direct distance dialing equipment in Wonder Lake is progressing on schedule. Terra nee P. Doran, of the U.S. Air Force is just going over for his second tour which will be in Thailand. Terry knew that his plane was leaving for overseas within hours of his brother's arrival and decided to do something about it. When Jim was coming through Customs at Travis Air Force base in California, he was suddenly given a message to come to the front of the customs line because his brother wanted to see him before departure. The two boys spent the next fifteen minutes exchanging news items and experiences. This meeting was Terry's first chance to salute his newly promoted brother, and in so doing, forced Jim to drop his luggage in order to return the salute.
