The school, scheduled for August, is expected to have the largest enrollment ever experienced by the church. Each summer in a period of two weeks, including the three connecting Sundays, are set aside for a concentrated Bible teaching ministry. The pupils attend sessions each morning from 9 to 11:30 a.m. "The value of the program is realized when one considers this period contains a larger block of teaching time than more than six months of the regular Sunday school program," commented Mrs. Virgle Chappell, director of the educational program for the church. All children and youth, 3 through 16 years, are invited to participate in the program. The Bible Speaks Virg/e L. Chappell, Pastor First Baptist Church, McHenry IS THE HOLY SPIRIT GOD? There was a man and his wife in the membership of the first church in Jerusalem. There had been many marvelous things happening in the lives of the people there. Explanation for the unnatural experiences was that "they were all filled with the Holy Ghost" (Acts 4:31 KJV). This couple was beginning to feel left out of it all. They had personally experienced no such happenings. They developed a scheme that they would pledge a certain gift, then they would keep back part of that gift for personal use. TCiey thought this seemingly charitable gesture would surely gain for them acceptance into the inner fellowship of the church. But one fact was not anticipated. They overlooked the Person of the Holy Spirit of God. "Why hath Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Ghost?" (Acts 5:3,9 ff), was the question they faced as they stood before the Apostle Peter. The praise they had anticipated became instead their sentence of death. This historical situation gives every proof of the deity of the Holy Spirit. Peter accused this couple of sinning against the Holy Spirit. The accuracy of the Apostle's words is seen in the outcome of the experience, (see Acts 5). The deity of the Holy Spirit is also set forth in that He possesses divine attributes. The Psalmist (137:7-10) speaks of the om nipresence (all present) of the Holy Spirit. The Apostle Paul in structs the Corinthians of the complete knowledge of the Holy Spirit. (I Cor. 2:10,11). He is spoken of as eternal by the author of the Hebrews epistle (1:14). These are attributes found only in the person of Jehovah God. We may also see His deity revealed in that His name is coupled with the name of the Father and the Son. In believers' baptism we are to be baptised "in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19 KJV). The apostolic benediction of the Apostle Paul expresses, "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the Communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. (2 Corinthians 13:14 KJV). Also we should give attention to these additional facts. (1) Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35). (2) Jesus was anointed by the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38). (3) Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 4:1). (4) Jesus was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11). These are only a few of the evidences of the personality and deity of the Holy Ghost of God. This concept adds to the significance of the instruction of Jesus: He will indwell every believer (John 14:16, 17). He convinces our hearts concerning Jesus (John 15:26). Perhaps the most vital truth to us today is that the Holy Ghost communicates our personal needs to the Father. "We don't know how to pray as we should, but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words" (Romans 8:26, Living Bible). YOUNG AT HEART- Standing in front of one of the sets to be used in the McHenry Choral Club's annual spring presentation are two members, Ann Zelous and Bill Reinwall. The scene above is part of the setting which portrays the program theme, "Young at Heart". Benefitting the McHenry Viscount drum and bugle corps, the program will be presented Saturday and Sunday evenings, May 6 and 7, at 8:15 o'clock in the West campus auditorium.
