PACK 351 HOLDS PINEWOOD DERBY AT PACK MEETING Cub Scout Pack 351 held its pack meeting, Thursday, April 27, at St. Patrick's church hall Rev Cahill opened the meeting with a prayer. Den 6 was the honor guard for the meeting. Kenneth Lewis and Bobby Kinsey received their Bobcat Pins. Mike Eisele and Ken George earned the Wolf Badge and Pin The Bear Badge and Pin went toTimSabatkaandBill Weber. The new Denners are Rich West, Danny Coughlin and Dave Schaan. The assistant Denners are Mark Betancourt, Ken Lewis and Mark Lawrence. The Webelos Sportsman Award was earned by Dennis Adams, Ken Bottari, Paul Carlson, Tom Cheatham, Danny McAuliff, Dave Schaan, Ted Weber, Mark Lawrence and Tim Sabatka. Dennis Adams also received the out- ^doorsman and aquanaut awards Den 4 received the cubby award. The main event of the evening was the Pinewood Derby race. The scouts raced cars which they made and decorated themselves. Each Den first had a com­ petition among their own boys. The winners from each den then raced for the cham­ pionship. First place winners in the den races were Ryan Bradley, John Ganske, Don Smith, Tom Creutz, Keith Belzer, Bob Tonyan, John Boro, Bill Slater, and Ted Weber. Second place winners were Joe Perroni, Don Smith John Ganske, Chris Nylander, Jeff Nylander, Joe Weyland, Mike Miller, Jeff Rhode and Dennis Adams. Third place winners were Jeff Shaefer, Rich West, Ken George, Greg Ernest, John Gies, Tom McAndrew, Scott Reyberg and Jeff Schaan. These boys received ribbons. The grand championship winners were: first place, Ted Weber; second place, Bill Slater; and Third place Brian Bradley. Awards were also given to the boys whose cars had the best general ap­ pearance. Mike Miller won first place, Keith Belzer won second place and Greg Ernest won third place. The two first place winners received the Pinewood Derby trophy. The second place winners received pen and pencil sets and the third place winners received ID. Bracelets. The judges for the race were Father Cahill, Don Brooks and Bob Belzer ATTEND KISHWAUKEE ANNUAL MEETING Mrs. Ruth Roach and Jim Kirk of Cub Scout Pack 351 attended the annual meeting and recognition dinner of the Kishwaukee District which was held Sunday, April 30, at the American Legion Home in McHenry. Kishwaukee District is part of the Black Hawk Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Jim Kirk was presented with a Scout Key in recognition for his outstanding work with the Boy Scouts. Mrs. Roach received her Den Leader training award certificate at the dinner FINAL STANDINGS OF LAKELAND PARK BOWLERS The bowling season has come to an end for the Lakeland Park Saturday night fun seekers bowling league. These are the final standings for the teams. The Coffins are on top in first place with 384 wins and 174 losses. The Up Yours are in second .place with 314 to 244. Third place went to the Boomers with 31 wins and 25 losses. The Fourth place team is the Do Nothings with 31 to 25. The Grumpy Bottoms are in fifth place with 30 to 26. The sixth place position is held by the Lucky Seven with 284 to 274. The Partners are in seventh place with 28 to 28. The Ball of Confusion team has eighth place all sewed up with 274 to 284. In there with ninth place are the Stand Ins with 254 wons to 304 losses. The Exhibitioners are in tenth place with 234 to 324. Eleventh place is held by the Topps with 21 wins to 35 losses. The Weigh Outs finished in last place with 20 wins and 36 losses. The bowling banquet will be held Saturday, May 6, at the Antioch Country club. Cocktails will be served at 6 p.m. and dinner will start at 6:45 p.m. ST. PATRICK'S LADIES GUILD SPONSORS LUNCHEON The Ladies Guild of St. Patrick's church is sponsoring a luncheon on May 17. It will be held at St. Patrick's church hall If you would like to attend this luncheon you will have to make a reservation. Please call Mrs Petie Oakford at 385-5334 to make it. McCULLOM LAKE CLEAN UP DAY Saturday, May 13, has been set aside as McCullom Lake clean up day. The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts from com­ munities around the lake will be helping in this project but many more workers are needed. Bring rakes and shovels to the beach in West Shore Beach and help give the shoreline a face lift. Saturday, May 20, has been set aside in case of rain on May 13. STUDENTS TOUR CITY HALL Mrs Patricia Lasko took a group of students from Parkland school to city hall to tour the building on April 18. the highlight of the trip was a 45 minute interview with Mayor Doherty. The interview was recorded by the students and taken back to Mr. Anderson's room at Parkland school. This activity was part of a project "getting to know your government". The students who went on the trip were Tina Licastro, Donna Lasko, Toni Malone, Dawn Jaborek, Helen Arient and Karen Stupe. Here & There In BUSINESS COMPLETES COURSE Miss Betty Sullivan, of McHenry L-M, Inc., McHenry, has just completed a Dealer­ ship Accounting - Methods & Procedures course conducted at Ford's Chicago Marketing Institute. The course is one of a number offered by Ford Marketing institutes to benefit Ford and Lincoln-Mercury customers by emphasizing after-purchase service and customer relations. HONORED FOR SALES Frank C. Meyer of Buss Ford Sales, 3936 W. Main street, McHenry, will be honored for outstanding sales performance during 1971 at a Ford 300-500 club banquet in May. R.B. Stevenson, Ford division's Chicago district sales manager, said a select number of Ford dealership salesmen will be presented a club membership award for "ex­ cellent retail sales per­ formance." COMPANY SALES Modine Manufacturing company's sales for the fiscal year ended March 31, 1972, were up slightly while earnings rose 6 percent, E.G. Ruther­ ford, president and chief executive officer, has an­ nounced. Sales volume for the fiscal year totaled $80,602,000, compared with $79,938,000 a year earlier. Net earnings were $3,249,000 compared with $3,056,000 last year. Earnings Twice Told Tales FORTY YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 12, 1932) A pretty spring wedding was solemnized at St. John's church at Johnsburg on Wednesday morning, May 11, when Miss Marie Klein and Mr. John E. Nett were united in marriage by Father Vollman, pastor of the church. One of the most important social events of the school year took place Saturday night when the Juniors of the McHenry high school entertained the Seniors at a banquet served at Justen's hotel. Nearly one hundred Juniors, Seniors and members of the faculty were present. Following the dinner the party went to the Empire Theatre where they saw "The Man Who Played God." Miss Mary Brefeld, who spent last week in the home of her parents, is now employed at the Blumefield Hills Country club, Michigan. Ben Justen owned the highest producing herd in association, one in the McHenry county for the month of April with twenty cows, one dry cow, milk producing 1,125 pounds and fat producing 39.8 pounds. Mrs. Letah Davis entertained the members of her card club. Bridge was played and prizes were awarded to Mrs. Frank Hughes and Mrs. Robert Thompson. Members of the Sunday school class at the M.E. church who received three months attendance pins were Eugene Thomas, Raymond Ferwerda, Mary Erickson, Eugene Sayler and Florence Austin. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (Taken from the files of May 15, 1947) A group of women throughout the county who are to be congratulated for the good they are contributing to society are the district or school nurses. Since there is one such person in this community who is a fine example of these social service workers who give so much and demand so little, there have been several in our little city who think she should receive recognition. A dream of long standing for' ' board members of school' District 15 will be realized next fall when a home economics program is initiated in Junior high school for seventh and eighth grade girls. Twenty-five years of service which will end with the retirement next month of Paul R. Yanda, M.C.H.S. band ' director were recognized most ' appropriately when about 125 band students and their parents and friends gathered in the high school cafeteria. The occasion was the annual band banquet and this year the central figure was Mr. Yanda, who has so ably headed the musical ' department for a quarter of a century. A son was born at McHenry hospital May 10 to Mr. and Mrs. William Brda. A quiet wedding solemnized in Country Church of the City, Evanston, Friday evening May - 11 united in marriage Miss Sara S Kay Douglas and Dr. James £ Smith Godwin. Rev.
