WEDDING CELEBRATIONS Larry and Darlene Leh- mkuhl, with their children, spent last weekend in Clinton, Iowa, visiting both their families. They also attended the wedding of Darlene's cousin. We understand it was a beautiful wedding and though the rains were pouring down outside, it didn't dampen the spirit of the occasion. Paul and Althea Walkington attended the silver wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wilcox of Woodstock last Sunday. Mrs. Wilcox and Althea are sisters. 4-H REMINDER The Busy Three 4-H Club will hold its regular monthly meeting at the Ringwood church Monday night, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. U.M.Y.F. The Ringwood UMYF will hold its swimming party tomorrow, Saturday, May 6. Members will meet at the church at 2 p.m. CLEAN-UP Our boys in Ringwood who belong to Scouts joined several groups in Wonder Lake who spent many hours cleaning up the wayside of Wonder Lake Road this past Sunday. This was no small task. Perhaps if those guilty of throwing all their junk and garbage along the roadways could be made to do this cleanup themselves, those tired backs and muscles would be a good reminder not to do it again. True, the highway department sends crews out also to do the jobj but it costs the taxpayer hundreds of dollars which is money that could be spent in more productive ways. With summer vacations coming on, get a litter bag for your car and USE IT! VISITORS Over the weekend we hear that Mr. and Mrs. Russell Soddy, Mrs. Phillip Fonk and Bob Fonk all of Kenosha, Wis., and Web and Leo Blackmon of Richmond and Frank and Lilly Visconti of Ringwood were all visitors in the Hepburn- Brennan home Sunday to help Mrs. Nellie Hepburn celebrate her birthday. Mrs. Alberta Lee and Mrs. Jim Whiston of Rockford were callers in the Clayton Bruce home this past Sunday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Greetings this week go out to Nancy Gillespie and Little Jennifer Bauer on May 7 and on May 9 to Ricky Mough. On the tenth Wanda Bruce has her day and on the eleventh little Rachel Ackerman will be 5, and on May 12 Miss Patty Brennan and Susan Mary Thompson both celebrate their natal day. On May 13 it will be a very special day for Mr. and Mrs. Byron Sowers as they celebrate 52 years of wedded bliss. We all wish you many more continued years of happiness. Bye for now and have a nice day. "The Gang" WITH VIEW ... "Just Room Enough" is an apt name for this tiny island in the 1000 Is lands area-of the St. Lawrence River between New York State and Ontario, Canada. Although smaller than most of the is land homes, it still has every amenity for a perfect family vacation, in addition to a mag nificent view of a score or more of the 1000 Islands. McKenney observed, "Re-affirm your faith in the great institution of common law. Law is a living, vital process which serves and belongs to all mankind, and we of the Bench and Bar are charged with keeping the faith." Judge William M. Obligation and duties go hand in hand with law and are necessary to its survival, he admonished. The indifference of some citizens and their shirking of duties, such as serving when called for jury duty, and exercising their vote, is active participation in the destruction of the system, he warned. Judge Carroll then thanked the McHenry County Bar association for helping to in spire some serious thinking upon these issues by the citizenry of McHenry county. Legion Families To Take Part In State Convention The sons of the American Legion will hold its annual detachment convention in DesPlaines area during the weekend of May 20 and 21, Edward Yaras, P C. state advisor of the Sons of the American Legion, has an nounced. This convention is conducted yearly by the Sons of the American Legion, Department of Illinois. The DesPlaines Post, No. 36, PAGE 9-PLAINDEALER- Introduce Bills For Emergency Aid To Schools Bills providing up to $25 million in emergency financial aid to hard-pressed school districts and a means of evaluating public education and the performance of the state education office were introduced in the General Assembly Wednesday. The measures were part of a package of legislation developed by the office of Superintendent of Public In struction Michael J. Bakalis. located at 10 N. East River road, will be the host. Pre-convention committees will be held Saturday, May 20, to act on convention rules, resolutions and other con vention matters prior to Sun day's sessions. For example, the Sons of the American Legion is in the process of investigating the symbol of peace which it is felt has undertones that are not directed to the so called love and peace it is said to represent. The Sons advocate love of one's own God, love of country and fellow man. State Commander of the Sons, Frank Young, Jr., an nounced that the community residents are welcome to at tend and view the convention. FRIDAY, MAY 5, 1972 The emergency aid bill would provide relief only to districts demonstrating they have done all they can to finance them selves. Criteria would include shortening the school year, program cutbacks, maximum use of borrowing power and attempts to raise funds locally. A board made up of the state superintendent, governor, treasurer and auditor would evaluate aid applications. This would be a reap- propriation of $25 million allocated but not spent for schools in fiscal 1971 because of drawbacks in the state aid formula. The education office plans to submit legislation altering the formula to prevent other such lapses. The measure would expire in December 1972. Two bills make up the "educational performance package" providing for evaluation of the state superintendent's office and the educational service region offices as well as assessment of public education in Illinois.
