Seventy, students entered Parkland's poster contest with two posters from each level entered in district competition. The parkland entries were Daureen Parenti and Mary Tapaninen, Pam Hanna, Kelly Staley, Brenda Love, Chris Braem and Clara Mullen. Each was given a Cedar seedling. Pam Hanna was the district winner for the sixth grade level. On Wednesday, the five teams of students and staff were assigned an area outside to clean up. With the trash collected a "trash man" was constructed. The major em phasis was a newspaper drive conducted to raise money to buy trees which were planted on Arbor day at the school. Approximately 8*2 tons were collected. The trees were planted during a ceremony by Mayor Doherty, Dr. Boos, students and school personnel. Speeches were given at the ceremony by Mayor Doherty and a few students concerning ecology, pollution and the origin of Arbor day.
