Once we appreciate that healthful living is more a matter of having the right kind of emotions than any thing else, it becomes apparent that the most important aspect of living consists in training and handling our emotions. So far, education has con sisted largely in educating our intelligence, which is quite necessary also. But one can have a very high intelligence and very bad emotions, and live perfectly miserably. S K-1 5/12-5/13-5/14 New officers of the Veterans of World War I, McHenry Barracks 1315, were installed recently during a short ceremony. Past Commander Howard "Pat" Cairns acted as installing officer and seated the following officers for 1972-73: Clyde Blackwell, commander; Harry J. Donner, senior vice- commander; Michael Druml, junior vice-commander; Henry E. Rahn, judge advocate; Garfield C. Benson, chaplain; Harry C. Lock, quartermaster; Clyde H. Bailey, one-year trustee; James F. McCulloch, two-year trustee and John Phol, three-year trustee. Commander Blackwell ap pointed the following to assist him, Eugene A. Kane, ad jutant; Paul H. Leubscher, legislative officer; Louis G. Woelfersheim, sergeant-at- arms and Floyd S. Cooley, hospital chairman. Immediately after in stallation ceremonies, Master of Ceremonies Harry C. Lock, past commander, Department of Illinois, introduced E. Merle Harrison, administrator of the Illinois Veterans commission, who presented a com prehensive outline on the functions of the commission. Harrison pointed out the importance of notifying each veteran to record his discharge papers with the county clerk, Service records should also be filed with the commission's representative at each county seat. Mr. Johnson, McHenry county representative, may be contacted at the courthouse annex, Woodstock, each Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In Waukegan,< the com mission's representative may be found at thp offices on Washington street, near the American Legion home. McHenry county veterans are urged to contact Johnson and obtain a copy of a circular which outlines all the Illinois and federal benefits available for the veteran, his wife and his family. For example, the three essential records needed by a veteran's widow before processing a claim are her birth certificate, their marriage certificate and his discharge papers. These may be filed with the representative any time and the veteran will then be given an identification card. This I.D. card will be readily available if needed in future dealings with the commission. The importance of this I.D. card is shown in the following case history. An Illinois veteran was severely injured in an automobile accident in California. He was unable to talk but his Illinois veteran's commission identification card was found on his person. The California police immediately contacted the Illinois Veterans commission who made arrangements to have the in jured man taken to a veterans' hospital in that state. Should the veteran have been taken to a local hospital, he would have incurred a large hospital bill. Harrison emphasized that this was just one example of the importance of having records filed with the commission. This applies to World War II, Korean and Vietnam veterans as well as World War I per sonnel. Harrison urges veterans to contact their commission representatives as soon as possible for their own, as well as their familiy's sake. HARD ENOUGH QKJ MB ? r were a matter of one or the other, life would be sweeter with good emotions and low intelligence. In fact, if one goes about it right, it is easier to acquire good emotions than ^ good intelligence. And there is actually no need for anyone to have bad emotions. And don't forget that good emotions have two general effects. First, they replace the bad emotions which were producing stress effects, and secondly, they produce their own pituitary effect which is a n o p t i m a l b a l a n c e o f endocrine function. It's this optimal balance which pro duces the state which we human beings have always called, "Gee, I feel good!"
