St. Clara's Court Plans Dog-Suds Night St. Clara's Court, No. 659, will hold its regular monthly meeting May 25 at 8 p.m. in the Oak room of Morttini school. A dog-and-suds night is on the agenda. Mrs. George Freund is chairman. Her committee consists of Mrs. Victor Freund, Mrs. Carl Freund, Mrs. Eugene P. Freutid, Mrs. George M. Freund, Helen Freund, Mrs. Clarence Freund, Mrs. Lawrence Freund, Mrs. David Freund, Mrs. A.P. Freund and Mrs. Robert L. Freund. Tips For The Homemaker Recent surveys of family eating patterns show that homemakers still think in terms of three meals a day. But most families don't follow that pattern-the emphasis is on snacks. Busy schedules of parents and children often make it impossible for the entire family to sit down to well-balanced meals every day. And since many meals are eaten away from home, there is no assurance that family mem bers are really eating what they need. Most mothers are aware of the importance of breakfast, but in only 25 percent of the households surveyed was a nutritious breakfast served regularly. Dinner, the main family sit-down meal for the day, was served only three times a week to the complete family. However, busy schedules and lack of time for food preparation need not result in poor nutrition. Good foods that can be ready in seconds for snacking are milk, ice cream, cheese, fruits, vegetables, peanut butter, Juices, cocoa, and sandwiches made with enriched bread. If the three-meals-a-day plan isn't working for your family, concentrate instead on having nutritious snack foods available for busy family members. DIETING? Before you begin a new reducing diet, put it to this test: - Does it encourage weight loss at a safe, moderate pace? - Does it include a wide variety of foods to give pleasure to eating and to satisfy hunger? -Does it replace weight- gaining eating habits with new, permanent and enjoyable eating habits? If you cannot answer "yes" to all three questions, the diet will not be successful in helping you lose weight permanently. CHEESE FOR WEIGHT WATCHERS Weight watchers can find cheeses to suit their special needs. Cottage and Ricotta cheese for example, are lower in calories than most other cheeses because they contain more moisture and less milk fat. Dieters should remember that Neufachatel cheese, made from whole milk, has fewer calories than cream cheese, which is made from cream or a mixture of milk and cream. Hard cheeses, however, con tain more protein than cream cheese or Neufachatel cheese. SUSAN ROMANI CAPPED - Susan Romani, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Romani of 2619 N. State Action Recovers $513 For High School Illinois Attorney General William J. Scott has announced that, as a result of actions taken by his office, Crystal Lake Community High School District 155 has received a return of $513. Scott said the monies were recovered in an antitrust "price-fixing" suit involving the purchase of plumbing fixtures by schools and other governmental institutions throughout the state. In the class action, which allowed the schools involved to join the Attorney General's suit without cost, the State of Illinois versed the American Radiator and Standard Sanitary corporation and other suppliers. As a result of another "price- fixing" suit, Scott has also announced that his office will recover a total of $1,080,000 for Illinois schools from eighteen book publishers and thirteen distributors involving the purchase of children's library editions. For competitive reasons, I don't want to increase rent 2Vfe percent for my tenants this year. If I don't raise rent by that amount this year, do I lose the right to make that increase next year? A No, a recent amendment to the rent regulations makes it clear that the 2V2 percent annual permissible increase may be carried over the next year if it is not used in the current year. Q If a firm is classed as a prenotifier as far as price controls are concerned, must it also prenotify wage increases? A A firm may be classes in one category for price ad justments and make pay ad justments that are classes in another category. F or more information on how economic units are classified as either prenotifiers, reporting or non-reporting firms, see IRS Publication S-5, Price and Wage Classification. It's available free by dropping a postcard to your IRS district office. j Q. Does a new retail firm have to wait one year to determine if its annual sales total $100,000 before qualifying for the exemption from all price controls? A. No. If at the end of its first three months of operation, a retail firm has sales of less than $25,000 and does not an ticipate its volume to exceed that rate, it will be exempt from further regulation. However, if in any succeeding quarter, the retailer's sales surpass the annual rate of $100,000, the firm will again be subject to regulation and will be limited to its base prices allowable increases. In no event will the firm be permitted to establish new base prices, and after the firm has com pleted one year of business, the total sales or revenues will determine the exemption status for the next year. The same procedure may be employed to determine if a retailer must "prominently" post his base prices, a requirement which is not demanded of retailers with annual sales or revenues of less J than $200,000. Q. IM'd ljke to raise the wages of some employees at my drive-in from $1.60 per hour to $1.80. Would this increase , count toward the Pay board's 5.5 percent standard? A. No. Increases to employees earning less than $1.90 an hour are excluded from the general wage and salary standard until their pay is brought up to the $1.90 per hour level. Q. When calculating wage and salary adjustments, should employers include all fringe benefits in the compensation base, even though regulations on excluded fringe benefits have not yet been published? A. Yes. In its policy decision on fringe exemptions, the Pay board decided that the base used in calculating percentages of allowable wage and salary increases should include the cost of fringe benefits excluded by the recent amendments to the Economic Stabilization Act of 1970, as well as other wages and salaries. This principle applies in determining allowable percentages for all purposes and is effective both retroactively and prospec tively. Q. Does IRS have the power to subpoena a business's books and records in connection with the enforcement of the E c o n o m i c S t a b i l i z a t i o n program? A. Yes. The recently a m e n d e d E c o n o m i c Stabilization Act of 1970 and subsequent delegation orders issued under the Act give the IRS the power to sign and issue subpoenas for the production of relevant books, papers and other documents in connection with the stabilization program. If an individual refuses to obey such a subpoena, the IRS may ask the Justice department to seek the aid of the U.S. District courts to compel the individual to appear and produce the documents.
