1 McHENRY YOUTH LEAGUE The season started with a bang Sunday. The Cubs and Tigers started the season with a pitcher's duel. B. Moerschbaecher and J. Larkin locked up in a 1-0 games, the Tigers on the winning side. Moerschbaecher giving up 3 hits, Larkin 4. The second game saw the Mets and Giants in a pitching duel also. T. Gough going for the Mets and Stanek for the Giants. The Mets getting the nod in this one, on an unearned run l to 0. The third game saw some hitting and also excellent pitching, but to the Oriole's surprise, all by the Cards. D. Pathologists View Fish From Fox Two veterinary pathologists prepare to look over fish caught in the Fox river from its banks in McHenry county to determine if they have the same incidence of skin cancer as those reported in a study by Dr. Erich Brown, professor at the Chicago Medical School University of Health Sciences. Tuesday, the Cubs and Giants came out trying to better their 1-0 loss Sunday, the Cubs taking thereon test 17-2. Jerry Larkin .ret grand slam of the year^l Klapperich also hit one out of the park. R. Vauk was the winning pitcher against three for the Giants, Knox was the starter and loser. PAGE 7-PLAINDEALER-FRIDAY, JUNE 9, 1972 Crystal Woods Birdies Golf League The monthly luncheon was held on June 1 with thirty or so members enjoying the lasagne in the recently completed dining room addition of the Crystal Woods Golf Club. The luncheon was prefaced with a short business meeting con­ ducted by Mary Sicks who was in perfect form with her usual quips. Prizes were awarded for the previous month's play and committee reports were heard. Agnes Toth who was a member McHenry Country Club First round winners in the Directors' Tournament held at the club on Sunday, June 4, were: of the Birdies was a guest this week. The young M.C.H.S. graduate had recieved his degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University class at Campion Jesuit high school. Prairie Du Chien, Wis. He maintained a 96 grade point average over his four years, including his junior year, which was spent in Europe. Thomas was named resident advisor for his senior year. The young man will attend the University of Chicago, where he has been awarded a scholarship. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. O'Brien. JEW FUEL . . . Bernard Johnson, Goodyear environ­ mental engineering manager, holds a clinker-like ash -- all that remains of an auto tire after it is used as fuel in a smokeless, odorless tire-fired boiler going into operation at their Jackson, Mich, plant soon. The ash is primarily the melted remains of the tire's metal bead. First of its kind in the U.S., the boiler will consume about 3,000 tires a day to generate steam power to manufacture new tires.
