Kelly Business Manager COWS THAT CAN'T PAY SHOULD BE ON THEIR WAY Cows that can't pay their way should go to market. Sending low producing dairy cows to market will save feed and labor for the profitable producers in your herd. It does not take much longer to take care of a high producer than a low producer. And it doesn't require any additional equipment/Non-feed costs are relatively the same for both high and low producers. High production from every cow you own is the key to profit. The production records are one way to keep track of how much each cow in your herd is producing. Several different production record-keeping systems are available-Dairy Herd Im provement, Owner-Sampler, and Weigh-A-Day-A-Month (WADAM). Your county Extension ad viser can explain the production-testing programs and will be happy to enroll you in a program.
