Hospital Dieticians Serve Patients In Numerous Ways Her job is to develop menus, budget food expenses, and train people who are in the dietary department responsible for the food service of several hundred people. She's a dietitian-a hospital dietitian At McHenry hospital, two registered dietitians are on the staff, part of the health team serving the community. "One of the special duties is to plan meals for persons with illnesses or who require a specialized diet, as a gall Madder patient, diabetic or heart patient," explains An­ thony Corcoran, administrator. Mrs. June Madden, R. D. administrative dietitian, is responsible for purchasing, budgeting, training, writing menus, and organization of the twenty nine member dietary department. Mrs Isabel Brody, R. D. theraputic dietician, does the patient contact work as she talks to patients and discusses their food program with them. She also gives diet instructions, conducts inservice classes and writes the modified diet menus The dietitian is trained in the science of food and nutrition. She has a four-year university course, followed by a year's internship at an accredited hospital. After this training, the dietitian can apply for mem­ bership into the American Dietitian association. Mrs. Madden is a graduate of Stout State college, Menomonie, Wis., and had her internship at Good Samaritan hospital in Cincinnati. She worked in Ohio and the Chicago areas before coming to McHenry hospital. Mrs. Brody received her Bachelor of Science at the University of California at Berkeley, and took her in­ ternship at the California hospital in Los Angeles. She served in the Mecttcal corps as a Lieutenant in the Army during World War II and worked in California and Chicago area hospitals before fhpving to McHenry ^ Not only doqs the dietary department handle all patient and employee meals. It handles hospital meeting functions, including dinners, luncheons, clinics and conferences. Meals are prepared and packed for distribution for the Meals on Wheels program which is sponsored by the United Church Women for McHenry, Pistakee Bay, McCullom Lake and Crystal Lake areas. Mrs. Madden has also worked in connection with the high school through the health careers program, giving lec­ tures and classes to par­ ticipating students. All the following recipes can be made in large batches and frozen for future meals. No need to cook every day when you use this method! SALMON LOAF WIITH CREAM SAUCE An economy dish with a flair. Yield: 6 servings, 1 1 -pound neckline and long, sheer bishop sleeves with lace cuffs over a softly gathered chiffon skirt. They wore matching picture hats with streamers. Robert Broege of Avalon, Wis., cousin of the bridegroom, served as best man. Groom­ smen were Randy Miller, Paul Miller, and Walter Hunt. Ushers were Stanley Serl and Russell Wetmore. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line the bottom of a 9 x 5 x 3- inch loaf pan with aluminum foil. Grease foil. Drain salmon, reserving liquid. Flake salmon, removing skin and bones, if desired. Scald milk. In a large mixing bowl combine bread crumbs, melted butter and milk. Let stand for about 5 minutes. Add reserved salmon liquid. Beat with mixer until well blended. Add salmon, egg yolks, lemon juice, onion, salt and pepper In a separate bowl beat egg whites until stiff, but not dry. Fold into salmon mixture. Turn into prepared loaf pan. TYSRELL Square Dance Club Host To Fun In Park If you thought you heard lilting rhythms floating through the air from the direction of the McHenry city park Saturday evening, June 17, you were quite right. On that evening the Checkerboard Square Dance club hosted an evening of square dance fun in the park. A group of fifty or more turned out to "promenade home" by moonlight and "star thru" under the stars. At break time, grilled wieners and hot coffee were enjoyed, along with a little small talk among friends. The next outdoor summer event will be the free dance in the McHenry city park July 21, which is part of the Marine Day festivities. Couple Wed Fifty Years Mr. and Mrs. John E. Tyrrell of 246 Union street, Crystal Lake, will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary Saturday, July 8, with a dinner Jiosted by their three children. The couple has two daughters, one son. six grand­ children and one great­ grandchild. The children are Mr. and Mrs. Earl (Muriel) Langbein of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon (Virginia) Schmitt of McHenry and Wayne E. Tyrrell of Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Tyrrell have resided in Crystal Lake for thirtv-four vears. where they are members of St. Mary's Episcopal church. He is a 50- year member of Masonic Lodge No. 158, McHenry, and a member of the World War I barracks of Woodstock. Mr. Tyrrell retired in 1964. His wife retired from Oak Mfg. Co. in 1966 after a period of twenty-three years em­ ployment. The former Evelyn Lindvall and John Tyrrell were married June 1,1922 at the home of her parents, in Woodstock, by the late Rev. Fred Graham, pastor of the First Methodist church in that city. The couple lived in Island Pond, Vt., the first years of their marriage, and fifteen years in Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Tyrrell was a foreman in the Memphis Furniture company before coming to Crystal Lake. % Plan Chicken Barbecue At Area Church Plans are well under way for the sixth annual chicken barbecue to be held Sunday, July 9, on the Ringwood United Methodist church lawn. As in past years, the menu will in­ clude half a chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cole slaw and one beverage. Additional beverage and dessert will be sold separately. Carry-out dinners will also be available. There will be an advance ticket sale. Other guests from McHenry in attendance at the buffet luncheon which followed the 1:30 service were Mr. and Mrs. John Fteken and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Conway, Mr. and Mrs. Volney E. Brown and son and great-grandma, Mrs. A.P. Freund. in Ringwood and Mrs. Art Christopher , Wonder Lake. Serving hours will be 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday night, July 8, there will be a program under the tent to which the public is in­ vited. More details on this will be announced later.
