Marge was chairman for membership and the cancer fund and it was in these two Categories that she received the awards. The membership award was for having reached 100 percent in new, re-instated or continuous memberships by the first of February; the cancer award was for having feached the quota set by the national V.F.W. cancer ehairman. She was among six ladies from V.F.W. post 4600 auxiliary who attended the convention. • The 48th Department of Illinois convention was at­ tended by over 1000 delegates from the state. The ladies heard an address from the Department com- tnander, Pat Harris, and the Department senior vice- commander, Pat Harrell, Sunday morning. Other dignitaries who attended and addressed the women were ^ast National President Earline May berry, one of the house mothers at the National •home in Eaton Rapids, Mich.; Delores Hoffbauer, who was accompanied by two of her four children who have resided at .the home since 1970 and National Conductress Glenn Grossman. Ladies from the state volunteer their services in W' ' " nineteen veterans' hospitals. Downey Veterans' hospital is the local hospital where the ladies of auxiliary to Post 4600 spend many hours each month. Over 36,000 women belong to auxiliaries to posts throughout the state, giving many volunteer hours in serving their communities in many ways. A combined memorial ser­ vice was held in the Pere Marquette hotel Thursday evening for the deceased members of the posts and ladies' auxiliaries, Friday, Saturday and Sunday were devoted to business and reports. One of the last items on the agenda for the ladies on Sunday was the election of officers for the year 1972-73. Brown which took place at the First United church at 5 o'clock on June 17 with a reception following at the Holiday Inn. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kempfer of Genoa spent a recent day with MeHenry relatives and friends. Mrs. Margaret Carlson and Mrs. Bernice Baldwin of Rock- ford visited their aunt, Ami Frisby, and other relatives here Wednesday. Mrs. Richard Seeder and children of Lake Villa were Sunday evening visitors in the Fred Bienapfl home. Mrs. Ilene Wiedeman of Heidelberg, Germany, is spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lisle Bassett, where a family get- together was held in her honor Sunday. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bassett and children of Lakeland Park, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Vo^el and daughter of Wheeling and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Vogel of Woodstock. George and Marie Steurmer of Bremen, Germany, are spending 45 days with his sister, Mrs. Anton Freels. Their last meeting was four years ago when Mrs. Freels visited Germany. Michael Antonson of Mar­ tinsville, N.J., visited relatives here this week and then motored on to Perry Park, Colo., where he was ac­ companied by Mrs. Edla An­ tonson, Mrs. Rose Berkley and Mrs. Marge Winkel for a visit in the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. Antonson. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Green, Brian and Jeff, of Stockton were weekend guests in the Richard Snyder home.
