These are the feelings of several of the young men in our subdivision, two who at the present time are starting a nine week basic training course at Fort Dix, New Jersey and one down in Texas. Following are their ad dresses with the hopes that their many friends here in the subdivision can take a few minutes to jot them a cheerful line as when "mail call'* comes, it sure is nice to receive some letters from "home". So if you can spare a few minutes to send these boys a little news from home, we know both the boys and their families will really appreciate it. SHORT TRIP Pam and Art Be lion of Sunset Drive recently went on a four day trip to Mobile, Ala. They stayed with relatives while there and besides taking in all the sites of the town and lovely scenery, especially enjoyed the tour through the Battleship U.S.S. Alabama and the Sub marine S.S. Drum which was docked in the bay. The weather was beautiful and both really enjoyed their four day trip down south. CHICAGO BRIGADE CAMP Three of our youngsters, Tommy Cornwell, Kurt Hallberg and Billy Gabriel, left on June 24 for a week of fun when they attended the Chicago Brigade Camp up in Allegon, Mich. They stayed in a beautiful lodge while there and enjoyed swimming, archery, fishing, horsebackriding, shooting BB guns and the wonderful meals. On July 1, the Cornwell family, Joan, Ron, Timmy and Peter, drove up to Michigan to get Tommy and spent part of the day at Warren Dunes State Park which is located on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan. They enjoyed a delicious picnic lunch, a delightful swim in the lake and the boys really en joyed their stay at camp. FAMILY PICNIC « When just the Connells on Oak Lane get together, it's quite a group, but when you include Jack's parents, four brothers and their families, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, you come up with quite a crowd as altogether approximately 135 Connells got together on Saturday, July 8, for their annual family picnic which this year was held at Veterans Acres in Crystal Lake. The weatherman cooperated and gave them a beautiful day for their picnic and everyone enjoyed the food, games, races and the many prizes but especially enjoyed just being able to all see one another as the family has grown so large and it's not too often that a group of this size can manage to all get together. FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATION After spending a delightful Fourth of July holiday together, the. Janik and Laskowski families and the Lisi family, Joan and Josephine's sister from Cary went over to Wauconda to top off the day watching their fireworks display. The fireworks were beautiful until something wait wrong, an explosion occurred and little Dean Lisi suffered injury to his face and neck. He was taken to Condell Memorial hospital in Libertyville, along with several others who were injured for treatment. What had intended to be an enjoyable evening turned into a very upsetting one for all three families and it will definiely be a Fourth of July holiday that they will all remember for a long time to come. GET-WELL WISHES Sometimes ladders are not too sturdy, especially when using one to climb into a tree...and as a result, little Angela Catanzaro of Hyde Park spent one night in St. Theresa's hospital in Waukegan last week after falling from the ladder and breaking her wrist. It took four doctors to finally set the tiny bones and the next month or so will be a long one for Angela while she's waiting for her wrist to heal. Art Bellon of Sunset Drive recently spent one night in Woodstock Memorial hospital as the result of an appendicitis attack. Sincerely hope that these two are feeling much better now and we all send cheery get-well wishes to them. VISITORS FROM FLORIDA Marge Connell's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schweik, are still here enjoying their stay "in the country" while grand ma recuperates from surgery and since grandma is out of the hospital, many of their friends have driven out to visit with her and extend their get-well wishes. Last week however, brought a very unexpected surprise when friends of theirs for over forty years, Mr. and Mrs. Lon Beneini, dropped in from North Palm Beach, Fla., where they have spent the winters for the past seventeen years. A very delightful visit was really enjoyed as they reminisced all the good times they had together oven the many years that they have been friends. BOY SCOUT CAMP Two blocks in our subdivision were very quiet last week as four of our boys, all Scouts from Troop 162 in McHenry spent the week at camp. Ricky Connell, Johnny Emerson, Timmy and Tommy Hughes left on Saturday, July 8, from Land mark schrol on the Troop bus followed station wagon with a rack of canoes for a very exciting week up in Minong, Wis., about 400 miles north. They pitched their tents on Lake Minong and the leaders TO ROMANTIC PLACES Jet tours to Europe, Latin America, Hawaii, and Around the World. See u» for *wift travel to vacotionlands every where. Approximately thirty boys wait on this trip and wore given the opportunity of earning merit badges in cooking, canoeing, swimming, Ashing and many more. Our boys all finished the requirements for second class Scouts and are now starting to work towards first class. The week included swimming tests, canoe instruction, a five mile hike to Totogantic Park, songs around the campfire and all the things that boys love to do in the great outdoors. Some nice fish were caught and a big thank you goes to Mr. Hartwig, Mr. Seaton, Mr. Thomas, Mr. Kirk, Mr. Hutchinson, Mr. Cunat and Gary Boehm for chaperoning the boys and making it possible for them to have such a memorable time. WOMEN'S CLUB MEETING The Holiday Hills Women's Club held its July meeting last Wednesday evening at the home of Mary Ann Mahon. Several items were discussed during the business meeting. The most important items being that of ideas for money raising projects. The club has been donating funds to the association for various road projects, and now needs to replace these funds. Many items will be needed to make it successful. Servers for Lakeland Park DOROTHY LENSE No Fishing On MeCullom Lake Until Next Year This is beginning to sound like a broken record, but some people seem to have to be reminded more than once that there is still to be no fishing on MeCullom Lakel The lake will be open to fishing in the spring of 1973 and the fish need all of that time to grow to maturity. Children were seen fishing at the beach and there was a group of children fishing at the boat launch area. The kids at the beach already had a bucket full of fish and the ones at the boat launch were taking immature bass. Parents please don't give your children fishing poles, yet. If everyone will be patient, there will be plenty of fish for all. There has been a lot of . time, effort and money invested in the cleaning up and stocking of McCullom^Lake. This was not done for jus) a privileged few but for all of us. RED CROSS SWIMMING LESSONS The Red Cross swimming lessons will begin Monday, July 24, Monday through Friday at the West (Herzog) Beach.
