PAGE 16-PLAINDEALER-FRIPAY, JULY 28. 1972 HELPING PAWS The above picture is of a lVi- year-old (larger part Spaniel) female, black, housebroken, distemper shots, alnd Very gentle. She would be a lovely addition to fbur home, call 658- 7666. Ahead of you is a little blue car. He slows down in the middle of a highway, thinking you will pass. You see the car door open and out comes a mother dog and some puppies. The caraheadspeadsoffatsuch a fast speed and your heart breaks as the mother dog runs barking after the car. Then you are faced with the question of "..should I take her home or not...will she bite me..I bet it will cost me a lot to board her. .1 don't want to get in volved..maybe I should have taken down their license number..". Chances are that if you care about animals you will take in this stray temporarily; otherwise you might drive on. Here you and your friends were talking about animals yesterday, and how some kid came around collecting for an animal shelter, putting the "bite" on you again. But you and your friends agree the animal problem in McHenry county is not that bad and you really don't know what an animal shelter is needed for. Well, my friend, you are so wrong! An animal shelter is very much need in McHenry county. After all we are talking about quite a few miles of territory. It is a shelter's job to help this mother dog and her pups, hopefully before she is hurt or before she hurts someone out of confusion, desperation or hunger. It is a shelter's job to find her a home or if necessary to put her to sleep. There are thousands of homeless dogs and cats either dropped off or sometimes left as a bonus at the house they are leaving. These people have no ' REAL care or love for animals, they can't have much feeling to let an animal suffer this way. There are cruelty cases in which a shelter will cooperate with the county in saving the animal and prosecuting the guilty party. These reasons and hundreds more are our reasons at HELPING PAWS for trying to earn enough money for a shelter for homeless animals. Men, women and even children put in much time and trouble raising money and working in the office, anything to aid the homeless animals and to, in turn, aid society. This next month the McHenry County Fair will be held in Woodstock (August 2-6). There will be many items on sale for all the family. Please show your support by either buying one of our cute items or perhaps signing up to work in cooperation with Helping Paws.
