Upland Game Hunting Dates Are Approved j PAGE7-PLAINDEALER-WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2, 1972 Dates for the upland game hunting season have been approved by the Illinois Department of Conservation's Advisory Board. Season for cock pheasants, Hungarian partridge, quail and rabbits will run from Nov. 11 this year through Jan. 15,1973. Starting and closing times each day will be the times according to the Illinois Standard Shooting Timetable. "Tl»ere is approximately 12 minutes difference between sunrise and sunset from one side of Illinois to thejjther" commented Henry Barkhausen, Conservation Department director. "By setting a standard time for starting and closing shooting hours, we can_ eliminate the confusion hunters often have when they travel distances to hunt. We instituted this statewide standard time calendar last year, and it was found highly successful." The bag limit for cock pheasant is two, with a possession limit of four. Hunters will be allowed six Hungarian partridge per day aricTa possession limit of 12. The bag limit for quail is eight with 16 in possession, and rabbit hunters will be allowed five per day and 10 in their possession. The possession limit for the first day of the season will be the same as the first day bag limit. The dove season will com­ mence at noon (CST), Sept. 1, and continue through Nov. 9. Hunting hours are from noon until the legal closing time as established by the Illinois standard shooting table with a daily bag limit of 12 birds and a possession limit of 24. The possession limit during the opening day is 12 birds. The woodcock and Wilson's snipe season will run from Oct. 15 to Dec. 15. Shooting hours are set according to the Illinois Standard Shooting timetable. Daily limit for woodcocks is five, with a possession limit of 10. The opening day possession limit is five birds. Tourney The Johnsburg Tigers traveled to Rockford Saturday for a league game against the Rockford Collegiates. The Tigers won the game 6 to 1. The Johnsburg offense featured a well-balanced at­ tack, with seven men collecting hits. Hoe Dehn and Ed Mack each got two hits, while Ted Freund and Dave Klapperich each powered long drives for extra base hits. Ed Mack held the Rockford hitters in check for seven in­ nings, giving up six hits while striking out five. Mike Freund pitched two strong innings to pick up a save. During the next two weekends, Aug. 5 and 6 and Aug. 12 and 13, Johnsburg will host the A.A.B.C. district tournament at Johnsburg Community Club Field. On Saturday, Augf 5 at 1:00 Dundee will play Johnsburg, and at 3:30 Elgin Brewers will play Judson college. These four teams finished in the top two spots in their respective divisions, so there should be some good baseball to be enjoyed. Refreshments will be available on the grounds. The association will bef haring a booth with the McHenry County Department of Health, which will be doing diabetic screening. Everyone is welcome to stop by and have a free blood pressure taken and be checked free of charge for diabetes. _ The diabetic detection drive will be conduted from 1 to 9 p.m. every day of the fair. Detection kits will be distributed at Booth 29 in Exhibit Hall "D" (the new exhibit building). The tests are an effort to find unknown diabetics and guide them to medical care. Therefore, patients with positive tests will be referred to their physician. Other Births Mr. and Mrs. Eli Schwartz of Terrytown, N.Y., announce thp birth of their first child, a daughter, on July 1 at Phelps Memorial hospital - in Terrytown. She weighed 5 lbs., 4 6zs., and has been named Lynee Justine. The new mother is the former Judy Gregory, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gregory of McHenry. The paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schwartz of LosAngeles, Calif. Spring Grove Man Found Dead In Motel Room County authorities assisted the Spring Grove Police department last Friday af­ ternoon in the investigation of the death of Ernest Matson, 65, a resident of the Nor'West Motel, 2008 Route 12, Spring Grove. When the manager of the motel was unable to arouse Matson, he notified authorities who entered the room and found the deceased lyjjng in his bed. He apparently died in his sleep of natural causes. An inquest will be conducted by the Coroner's office. Big men take their work seriously: little men, them­ selves. There is a difference.
